Imaging technologies from Canon (News - Alert) will be now integrated with software products from Oracle (News - Alert). These products include Oracle Database, Oracle WebLogic Server, Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle WebCenter, and Java Platform Micro Edition among others. A joint announcement in this regard has been made by Canon Inc., Canon IT Solutions, Oracle and Oracle Japan.

For many years, there has been a successful relationship between Canon and Oracle. Oracle’s database, middleware and Java ME capabilities have already been embedded by Canon into its multifunction office systems and software technologies. Oracle capabilities will be now integrated by Canon IT Solutions into Canon imaging technology. A new flexible imaging platform which is based on a Service-Oriented Architecture or SOA will be therefore created.

Canon IT Solutions is expected to deliver this new platform in 2012. Enterprise Resource Planning and CRM applications including Oracle Applications can be now connected to Canon printers and copiers, including imageRUNNER ADVANCE systems. Increased business efficiencies for imaging and document processes can be achieved as the automating of workflows is supported by the platform.

Java ME is currently utilized by Canon for its proprietary Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform or MEAP. Imaging functions like scanning with OCR processing, merging/partitioning PDFs, and form printing can be utilized by users to streamline business processes.

In a release, Masaki Nakaoka, managing director and CEO of Office Imaging Products Operations at Canon said, “This collaboration with Oracle will deliver significant benefits to our users. By combining Canon’s imaging devices and technologies with Oracle software, Canon and Oracle can jointly develop new platforms and services through which we can expect to realize exciting new synergies. This collaboration will bring innovation to Canon’s multifunction office systems as well as more opportunities for growth.”

According to Chris Baker, Oracle senior vice president, Worldwide ISV and OEM Sales, new office solutions for mid-size to large customers will be developed by the organization in collaboration with Canon and Canon IT Solutions. Oracle’s top technologies will be leveraged by Canon to create a new, SOA-based platform. Companies will be therefore able to increase efficiencies across their businesses with this platform.

In other news, Canon Middle East has announced the launch of its high-performance Pixma iP4950, a photo printer ideal for professionals and families looking to create quality documents and photos at impressive speeds. Replacing the highly successful Pixma iP4850, the new Pixma iP4950, incorporates leading printing technology and innovative features, including full HD movie print and easy-photoprint, the company said.
