MELVILLE, N.Y. --

Canon Information and Imaging Solutions, Inc. (CIIS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon U.S.A., Inc., today announced significant partner traction, as the company continues to roll out its advanced Enterprise Imaging Platform (EIP). By partnering with CIIS, numerous systems integrators, including Apps Associates, Fujitsu America, HyperGen, iBizSoft, Infogain, Tier1, Inc. and Volo, LLC, are among the first to deliver companies the benefits of EIP, including efficient and accurate business workflows, subsequent cost reductions and the ability to derive meaningful value from paper-based information.

EIP is an innovative middleware platform that enables users to automate document and image-related business processes, and integrate them with enterprise applications. EIP provides a rich set of input and output document creation, capture and processing services that integrate a variety of enterprise applications to automate business processes. EIP streamlines both electronic and paper-based document procedures into one system where users have easy access to the latest information – and organizations have the ability to share data across multiple applications, instantly.

“Document-based processes still play a crucial role across a variety of organizational functions,” said Satoshi Nagata, President, Canon Information and Imaging Solutions. “Canon is proud to collaborate with top technology and service providers to increase the efficiency and reduce the burden created by complex business processes, as well as help companies generate new business value and opportunities by taking advantage of the information previously scattered across various back-end systems or buried in paper and digital documents.”

EIP streamlines a variety of business processes, automatically capturing, processing, classifying and indexing data. The platform uses this information to update various enterprise applications, as well as produce professional documents such as contracts, expense reports, applications and forms. EIP is capable of supporting a wide selection of office devices including MFPs and scanners, and when utilized in connection with Canon’s imageRUNNER ADVANCE multifunction office systems, additional functions are available, including the ability to initiate business processes directly from the device panel.

In addition to incorporating traditional enterprise application service-oriented architecture (SOA)-based adapters, EIP also contains imaging-based adapters that can control document related functions, such as Optical Character Recognition (OCR), PDF creation, forms creation, and format conversion. The platform provides a variety of benefits including:

Increased Efficiency: Significantly streamlines workflows by helping to reduce business process management processing time Information Value: Unlocks the value of the information held in hard-copy documents and stored in disparate back-end enterprise applications Reduced Costs: Decreases the need for manual document input Increased Accuracy: Provides greater data control through automation (e.g. error reduction and recovery, audit) Data Integration: Creates one automated solution to integrate multiple enterprise applications quickly and efficiently Customer Satisfaction: Provides flexible archiving and retrieval to improve customer interaction and boost overall experience Environmental and Financial Responsibility: Delivers efficient print management to help reduce document output Increased Scalability and Flexibility: Evolves with business needs (new vendors, more volume) and expands to other business processes (import/export, T&E, subsidiaries integration)

As a user of its own powerful technology, EIP is currently being used by Canon U.S.A. to automate business processes associated with accounts payable and receivables. By using EIP, Canon has significantly reduced costs and streamlined its financial workflows, reducing the time necessary to generate and process invoices by 400%.

“Like most large enterprises, Canon needs to produce thousands of invoices on a daily basis, utilizing information from a variety of back end systems,” said Kevin Sato, VP & GM of Corporate IT for Canon. “With EIP, we are able to reduce the processing time fourfold and gain better control and access to the receivables information thereby improving our overall cash flow.”

“As a lifelong advocate for the CIO and IT leader, I am constantly interacting with technology providers like Canon that offer innovative technology solutions capable of deriving new business value,” said Hunter Muller, President and CEO of HMG Strategy, LLC. “By bringing together imaging and information capabilities into a single platform, EIP represents the new face of Canon, as it brings to market a new breed of solution offerings for IT, based upon its imaging heritage.”
