Color Multifunction Solutions Allow Small Businesses and Workgroups to Scan, Send, Print, and Copy -- In Color

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 6, 2003-- Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. (NYSE: CAJ - News), today announces the introduction of two new digital color printer/scanner/copiers specifically designed to address the needs and budgets of color-intensive workgroups and small businesses without sacrifice. Compact, versatile, affordable, and delivering up to 600-dpi image quality, the imageCLASS C2500 and C3500 offer full-color printing and copying capabilities, along with Scan-to-E-mail support, and a 2,000-entry Address Book supporting LDAP server connections for the instantaneous delivery of color documents using established data networks. A full-size slide-out keyboard provides for convenient text data entry to put truly productive color communications within easy reach of every user -- even those without access to a PC.

The imageCLASS C2500 and C3500 will be on display at the Canon Digital Solutions Forum event held at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago, Illinois, May 6-7, 2003.

"The imageCLASS C2500 and C3500 are positioned to become central communications hubs for corporate workgroups," said Chris Sedlacek, assistant director, Integrated Business Systems Division for Canon U.S.A. "By supporting traditional office equipment functions in color, Canon is offering customers an economical solution to their business applications, bringing the world of color to a new level of affordability," furthered Sedlacek.

Featuring a four-drum, single-pass vertical engine, the imageCLASS C2500 and C3500 are designed with ease-of-use and economy in mind. Access to all internal components is from the front, enabling the printers to fit in the tightest spaces. Canon's All-in-One cartridge technology makes maintenance a snap, accommodating user replacement of the most common system components. The imageCLASS C2500 and C3500 utilize Canon's third generation of oil-less S-Toners to deliver outstanding quality prints and copies with smooth gradations and a naturally vivid, non-glossy feel. A 25-sheet Automatic Document Feeder and Scan-Once-Print-Many technology are standard, making full-color scanning and convenience copying of multi-page originals effortless. Conforming to Energy Star(TM) guidelines, these models use Canon's new Induction Heat Transfer design to shorten warm-up times to 1/10 that of printers using traditional roller fusing technology, and which helps to minimize overall power consumption throughout the business day.

The imageCLASS C2500 and C3500 offer productive print speeds of up to 17 and 21 ppm(1) for both color and monochrome pages at 600 dpi, plus standard duplexing. Featuring a 1,100-sheet maximum paper supply with up to 8.5" x 14" output size, the C2500 is rated for environments producing up to 60,000 total impressions per month. The C3500 offers an extended media range up to 12" x 18", with a duty cycle up to 120,000 impressions per month to meet the needs of larger, more demanding environments.

With USB and 10/100BaseT Ethernet interfaces standard, both models are immediately ready to connect to corporate networks. Everything businesses need for productive full-color scan-to-E-mail, color and black-and-white printing, and convenience copying is included. Canon utilities including NetSpot Console and Remote UI make system installation, management, and remote job monitoring fast and easy. Plus, Canon's Advanced Printing Technology II, (CAPT II), with graphic driver screens, makes printing from most any Windows environment a simple, intuitive process.

In the new imageCLASS C2500 and C3500, Canon has packaged the next generation of color multifunction technology into a compact, aggressively priced, and sleek design with a host of new technologies. A full-size QWERTY keyboard for text data entry puts truly productive color communications literally within easy reach of every user, and makes cost-justification simple for even the most budget-conscious customers. Users can quickly enter new destinations or search through stored E-mail addresses, add a subject (up to 64 characters), and message (up to 612 characters) to accompany every transmission. A 2,000-entry address book supporting the Lightweight Directory Address Protocol, (LDAP), means the system can access a designated server on a customer's network where E-mail address lists are stored. Users simply select the names of desired recipients at the control panel; the current E-mail addresses associated with each destination will be pulled from the LDAP server. Sending capacity is virtually unlimited, meaning users can send a document to all destinations registered in the system in a single operation. The imageCLASS C2500 and C3500 also offer multiple scan and resolution settings to make the most efficient use of memory (32MB standard, upgradable to 256MB), plus a range of industry standard file formats to ensure attachments can be quickly downloaded and easily opened by any recipient.

"Color scanning is one of the most exciting facets of these models. By utilizing this feature, customers can bridge the gap between traditional IT infrastructure and office equipment, supporting new business communications capabilities. Full-color 'Scan-to' capabilities reduce cost and speed the distribution of information as compared to traditional methods of sending documents, while presenting that information with complete accuracy," continued Sedlacek.

The Canon imageCLASS C2500 and C3500 are available in June 2003 through authorized Canon U.S.A. dealers and Canon Business Solutions locations. Suggested retail pricing is as follows:

imageCLASS C2500: $4,795.00

imageCLASS C3500: $5,895.00
