AquaForest, a UK company specialising in PDF and OCR technologies, have  announced the release of a new business solution known as Searchlight. The software helps to solve an important and as  of yet un-tackled industry problem in the form of a search and conversion tool  for unsearchable image only documents such as PDFs, Tiff files, and faxes.  SearchLight is intended to fill the gap as a full function audit, search, and  conversion tool with internal management that businesses can use in tandem with  Microsoft SharePoint and Windows File Systems to organize, monitor, and use  their unsearchable documents.

Most businesses could use more internal organization, but many lack the  appropriate tools to do so, especially when it comes to document organization.   Aquaforest's Searchlight is a response and solution to the estimated 20% of  documents that are created in non-searchable formats and then stored by  businesses. These documents, which frequently include contracts, faxes, and  important data documents, do not typically come up in search because they are  image-only rather than text. Standard Microsoft Search only searches for tags  and text, meaning that image documents are difficult if not impossible to find  except through manual browsing. Searchlight locates these documents, stores them  in document libraries, and then if desired by the user, converts them into a  readable and searchable format using Aquaforest's OCR (Optical Character  Recognition) technology. AquaForest also created their technology for usability  by more businesses, using a standalone platform that can be uploaded to any  server, and an easy to use Graphic User Interface (GUI). AquaForest has  presented a viable business solution for the problem that many business owners  face.

AquaForest's OCR technology, combined with a unique merging technology,  preserves the formatting of the documents but makes them searchable. The process  includes recognizing text, and then merging real text into the PDF or scan,  allowing Windows software to search and use it, without changing the document.  The GUI allows users to quickly access, audit and search individual files or  folders and then make conversions on individual or all documents that have been  audited in-place, or from a new document library. Libraries are created for  organization, and can be monitored to automatically add new documents.

So far, reception has been great, with users already praising Searchlight's  usability and efficiency. While the product was just released, AquaForest offers  free trials with audit functions for business owners to use to make a purchase  decision, and the technology is already catching on.

“I believe the Searchlight product is unique and definitely a “leader” in  this kind of document management workflow. The product is easy to configure and  does exactly what it states it does: Automatically OCR SharePoint document  libraries or Local Locations. Highly efficient, fully auditable, complete with  check out & check in comments.”  Says SharePoint Specialist, Jeroen  Schoenmaker.

For businesses, Searchlight presents a ground breaking simple method of searching within unsearchable documents and is currently one  of the only alternatives to manual browsing and selection. The software  integrates an easy to use service with a much-needed solution for document  organizing and monitoring. Searchlight is also multi-lingual and able to use OCR  conversion on more than 100 languages including Chinese, Korean, and Japanese.

Searchlight supports Windows File Systems, SharePoint 2010, SharePoint 2013,  World Dox, and most other Windows File Management Systems. Operating systems  include Windows 2008 Server, Windows 2012 Server, Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Searchlight can now be purchased or downloaded for a free trial from  AquaForest's website and can be purchased with multiple extra cost options such  as metadata extraction, iFilter modules, extended OCR modules and compression,  and more.
