The third of this year's Africa Print Roadshows, sponsored by Xerox, was held in the Free State for the first time, on 30 May 2012, at Kiepersolrant, in Bloemfontein.

This dedicated commercial and digital print exhibition, which is being held in four provinces in South Africa this year, gives industry professionals an opportunity to see print solutions in their own cities.

The event showcases the entire digital print process, featuring everything from sheeted A3 machines to grand format digital equipment, and includes both suppliers and manufacturers of commercial and digital printers, finishing equipment, software, media and consumables.

“The show attracted more than 280 visitors, both local and from the North West province and Lesotho,” says Paul Haglich, marketing manager of the production systems group in the Xerox division at Bytes Document Solutions. “They were able to view the large cross-section of products and services on display and exhibitors made several good sales leads on the day.”

The road show was an opportunity for entrepreneurs to discover possible business opportunities and learn about new solutions they can use to grow or improve their businesses.

“The Xerox stand proved to be a major attraction for visitors and the highlights of our exhibit were the hugely productive Xerox 550 and Xerox 1000 colour presses,” says Haglich. “Customers were amazed at the quality and versatile functionality of these digital presses. We also demonstrated our Infigo Web2Print, XMpie and Mphoto solutions that open up new opportunities for print providers to grow their businesses by offering new services to their clients.”

The show was successful for Xerox, with three potential customers requesting proposals to be drawn up on the day and more than 20 qualified leads to follow up. It was gratifying to see numerous print providers from Kimberley and Lesotho, who showed keen interest in business development solutions in particular.

The Xerox 1000 press uses environmentally friendly dry ink, which delivers sharp, rich, digitally mastered image quality to enhance efficiency and productivity on the widest ranges of media. Xerox colour 1000 press prints at 2 400x2 400 dpi for excellent sharpness and uniformity. It delivers outstanding mid-tones, crisp text, pure neutrals, detailed shadows and bright highlights, and excellent photo rendering, for speciality photo applications. The press maintains the colour consistency, from page-to-page and job-to-job. The unique clear dry ink option allows graphic designers to enhance the creativity and impact of applications and is ideally suited for brochures, photobooks, annual reports and marketing collaterals, and can also be used for special visual effects and watermarks for added security to documents.

The Xerox colour 550, with volumes of between 10 000 and 50 000 pages per month, is an affordable digital colour print solution for any environment, and is scalable to grow with a business. It allows companies to keep high-value colour printing in-house, and protects sensitive data with security features that conform to standards and regulations. Users can capture, edit, manage and store documents with optional workflow solutions.

Earlier this year, the expo visited Nelspruit and Durban. The international exhibition is in Johannesburg, from 22 to 24 August 2012. Last year's expo in the city attracted more than 6 300 visitors, making it the best-attended show to date. The road show will also be visiting Cape Town from 20 to 21 June.
