Insurance, Insurance, as long as the filter (surge proptector) was connected properly, all of the repairs and or the cost of the machine (upto max policy value) would have been covered.

I think the lightening probably would have knocked out the surge protector but may not have affected the system. You can never tell.

The strike knocked out two copiers, 3 computers, and a cb radio. Office is a public housing authority. The director told me she was on the cb radio the same time the strike hit and a short burst of flames came out of the cb radio. One of our salesmend did not sell them surge protectors at the time of the sale 3 years ago. However, their insurance is replacing the equipment cost (good for me), but while waiting for their money to come in, they want me to recover their files on document server. I will try to recover the files after placing the hard drive in another Aficio 1022.

Can the files not be recovered from the desktop? If you can access the files from the desktop, shouldn't they be able to recover them as well?
I answered my own question. We got a reconditioned 1027 in with a document server. I replaced the hard drive with the one with the files, and once the power was turned on, the files came up. The customer told me he had a few files he wanted, but he didn't tell me he had 31 pages of files! Oh well, I printed the files and the customer is happy.
