480 meter counts

WOW, how great is that!! Thanx for the tip! I was also told that the 480W would work with e-copy, did you hear the same thing?

Since we now have the ability to count square feet, would a 30x42 be 8.75 sqare feet? Or would the 480W count the 2.5 foot width as 3 feet since it's past the 2 foot mark? How does competition calculate square feet?

Art...not sure about e-copy. As far as the sq ft feature, I'll be doing an installation soon, so I'll definetly look into that 30 x 42 issue. I only wished I would have seen a 30 inch sensor when I opened up the hood last week in San Diego. btw..what a great, fun city.

Well, as far as how the competition counts, I can tell you that the Océ machines count square feet *EXACTLY*. So if you print a 30x42, you get exactly 8.75 on the meter. It does not round, up or down, in any cases. It is a mechanical meter that shows in 1/10 of a sq. Foot increments (for .05, the number moves half way) with a digital display on the controller.

As far as the 480, It only has the digital meter, and it does not show fractions. We'd need to run a few copies to see how it rounds. Hopefully Chops can tell us =).

For billing and accounting purposed, XES figues 2.6 square feet to the linear foot. This enables them to have a "fudge factor", and not come out behind if a customer is doing much smaller than 36" paper since a drum will ALWAYS be figuredin linear feet.
