Be careful it can do it manually but the max recommended paper weight is only 48lb., that is in the bypass. 28lb. in the trays, despite what any sales brochure may tell you. you can run anything but expect your fuser to sustain damage. I recommend you let your customer make the choice
Actually 90lb Index (162.75 gram) paper is in spec for the bypass and it can be manually duplexed but if they do a lot of it you will have fuser issues.

Paper stock and handling (heavy stock, glossy stock, envelopes ect) is still our Achilles heel on the Ricoh color printers IMHO. Maybe it will be addressed by Ricoh someday
Yeah, the specs say 90lb index through the bypass which would mean manual duplex, but customers hear only what they want and will soon be putting plywood through and complaining that they were told it would work.

We have decided to show what 90lb index is to our customers and make sure they know that there is a lot of terminology related to paper, (index, bond, cover, bristol cover, etc...) it would be nice if we could have one standardized term. Also, brochures and reams just list 48lbs. and expect people to know what that is.

We've also seen some fusing issues on heavier and particularly glossy paper where the image is like a scratch and sniff sticker.

Overall, it's a good product though and you can't beat the speed and space saving duplex unit.

the 3800c can run any paper weight you can find through the bypass. that being said, the maximum "recommended weight" is 48lb. the fuser will not run heavier paper for any length of time. you can drive your car on the beach but it does not mean it should be driven on the beach.
