@fisher I agree almost completely, but to play devils advocate I will say that we are selling more desktop printers now than we ever have before. Mostly brother, as we became a partner a couple years ago. I think people are looking for reps to show them a better way than just buying another HP off amazon, but the rep still has to have a higher level conversation with the client...not just hey buy your printers from us.

I believe this is the future of our industry. Forget MPS, that's a failure. In the near future a single vendor will manage all of an office's computer hardware. From switches, routers, PCs, printers and MFPs. Its already heading that way. At the very least we all need to partner up with the best IT companies in our territories and work together and share leads. Remember the IT guy's opinion will almost always carry a ton of weight when the customer is choosing an MFP or vendor to connect...

The company I work for has a full staff IT, programmer, installers, on-site engineers, a manager, I think we have a staff of 5 or 6. We are also Certified Cisco, MS GOLD partner, dell partner and have realtionships with many of the tech distributors. I guess management thought it was a natural evolution for us. I'm learning, I'm not happy with the commission plan. 6% on going is pretty pitiful when it takes longer to close, more meetings and I have to then work with possible 2 or more staff...

Sounds like you guys have started a completely new division. As I said earlier there is no synergy, you had to completely start from scratch except for maybe billing, the overhead is incredible and let me guess none of them work on MFP's and the sales people don't want to sell it because its a PIA for little return. Next, let me guess, (if its not already) will be a quota on MNS tied to MFP payouts. If you sell $30k MFP's with no MSN Commission rate is X% if you sell some contracts it is...

So, do you think it would be ethical for the leasing company to go after full stream of payments plus residual in the case I described??? I don't begrudge the leasing company a fair return on their outlay of money but to want the full stream plus residual 4 weeks after funding is excessive. Well, of course. We all understand that there is NO question of ethics, both parties signed a contract and agreed to obligations. Both took on risks. Now one party has experienced those risks. Is GA entitled to what the contract says they are entitled to after 4 weeks, or only after 5? Five is pretty short... maybe they get what the contract says after 15 weeks, but not 14? I spoke to our internal IT people and they are aware of Caltype. Feed back was that it is not much of a package. We use OMD. My sense over the years is that OMD is not perfect, but it does a pretty good job of managing the business behind the scenes. If you want biometric authentication, you should give Ringdale (makers of Follow-Me Printing) a shout. They're now an Alliance Partner and have biometric authentication devices. I do believe that classy Independent Dealers can (and do) win against due to providing excellent Service. That is because IKON and RBS fall short in this area. Yet, the game board is now changing, due to Ricoh's strict focus on supporting IKON and RBS at the expense of Dealers (yes with better 'pricing') and economic factors today, more and more business will erode for Independents. That is avery good point about the current relationship with Konica Minolta. However, when KIP's year over year revenue is down by 55% to 60%, due to economic factors within markets where these products play, KIP may need another distribution partner (i.e. SHARP). Sucess Story: There is a compant called FABSOFT, that is a RICOH partner for software. I have this on some equipment in a court reporters company. They push serious volume and needed to have a form overlay. We are using this on 2 60's running tandem and a 35. There are some glitches and os problems. New transfers would go to an affiliated partner in the geographical territory that is qualified to service that equipment. Ultimately, we are building a network of independent dealers not unlike what the direct channel already has access to. I finally one this deal at a law firm replacing 2x Ricoh with GBC StreamPunch in line with 2x Toshiba and 1x off line GBC MagnaPunch Pro and an electric cerlox binding machine My proposed solution was $61k less expensive over five years. The Managing Partner at the law firm asked all 12 staff to vote for their preference. All 12 voted Ricoh. Needless to say, the staff does not pay the bills.

for me this is very interesting, JIVE is a web based platform. I believe Classmates.com uses the Jive platform. When I was considering new platforms fo the p4p a few years ago I reached out to Jive. Jive is pretty much for the big boys. It seems Ricoh will partner with Jive for selling overall MDS solutions to it's customers. We became a Premier Partner with Print Audit so naturally, our orders now go through them. The main differences have more to do with timing of upgrades. For instance, we have had Print Audit Secure for quite awhile but PCS Director still doesn't have it I don't think. Also, I think you'll find that you can't "sell" the PA6 software if you are a RFG Dealer. All that having been said, all the things that people care about functionally, are the same.
