Re: JOINT STATEMENT BY SHARP ELECTRONICS CORPORATION AND EDWARD MCLAUGHLIN

Tallac ·
Odd - not a retirement. More like "he is free to leave (even though it doesn't sound like he has another job lined up), and we wish him well." Given that the Japanese are consumed with "face", is this the precursor to big changes in strategy? Are they letting Ed leave on his terms, so he would not have to preside over changes that would cause him, in their eye's, to loose face? Their $$$ in the US market are topped out, unless they make a much bigger commitment on direct branches, or they...

Tallac makes a great point "Are they pulling a Panasonic". I'm not that familiar with Sharp and the upper tier of management, however Ed has been one of the premier guys for quite a while. Anyone else have anything to offer up on this sudden change at Sharp, especially since it was only a month after the dealer meeting??

It will be a challenging time for Sharp, I agree, Ed was a very good leader and actually had a good grasp on technonolgy, he always knew the strengths and capabilities of the products and solutions. Regarding the new User Interface, dont be deluded by comments that it is going to a difficult learning curve, the display may look complex at first glance, but it is the most flexible system on the market. You can make it real simple for the end user and there are features that will blow you...

Re: KYOCERA MITA ANNOUNCES EXECUTIVE TRANSITION

GMAN ·
Could it be that he will soon replace Ed McLaughlin when he leaves SHARP? Or, perhaps Ricoh will tap this executive to save their Dealer channel. Unless there is some type of scandal, such as the one that led to the demise of Mark Hurd at HP, then Michael may have left on his own accord. Where will he wind up becomes the question.

Re: KYOCERA MITA ANNOUNCES EXECUTIVE TRANSITION

Art Post (Guest) ·
GMAN Never thought of that with either Ed or Pietrunti, either one may play well for Ricoh. More importantly I think the industry as a whole is struggling to find and identify new ways to make profit with the slow demise of the printed and copied page. Quietly Ricoh has launched a new start up and site for it's eWriter solution. It's an imprtant step for at least one of he manufacturers to identify the loss of clicks, thus the eWriter solution model is based on SAS (Software as a Service).

Re: Worst Experience with Nuance

VinceMcHugh ·
When Ed Schmid was running eCopy they had the best pre & post sales support in the industry. You could call an 800 # while onsite and get someone to answer the phone who actually knew the product better than you did. Those were the days when eCopy was a Canon only product. But Canon did not buy a controlling interest in eCopy so when their contract ran out, eCopy opened up to all copier manufacturers, and their support became poor, the rapid expansion overwhelmed them. I thought that the...

I re read this and if Art hadn't have posted this I would have ripped it to shreds. So here is my new and improved toned down sophisticated paragraph by paragraph interpretation of this. That is how it works. New Sales Managers increase activity requirements when there in't enough. So your on the phone 4 hours a day. So don't miss the goals. Tip recommend the sales manager stay with you after hours until maybe 9 or 10 pm 3 times per week to coach you and help you get better, in an email with...

I also agree that this situation calls for much more than just hardware. There are data issues and workflow issues here. Hardware is the last part of this equation. In addition to Old Glory's questions, Have they discussed where their data is coming from, what format it's in and whether it's proprietary? How clean is the data? Do they have any other delivery needs for the output (for example, archiving pdfs of the invoices, searchable archiving, faxing, emailing)? How do they currently...

They are pushing it as a cheap alternative and they are big on what Ed McLaughlin shared recently talking about ink making a big comeback. That machine has a dealer cost of something like 1,400.00 They said they want one dealer in each state and no more. Will see how that pans out.

Last week was a killer! Not that I sold anything, but I had a golf outing on Monday (did secure a meeting out of that), two full days of training in PA on Wednesday and Thursday. I had to bird dog my way home on the back roads of eastern PA. Enjoy these threads from 15 years ago this week! New Ricoh Type-H Staple...

80 Years Ago Today Xerography Was Invented

Art Post ·
Eighty years ago today, in a home laboratory in Astoria, Queens, Chester Carlson invented a process that would come to be known as xerography. The process would provide the groundwork for the invention of copy machines. Copy machines still exist today, but they no longer rely on xerography and are generally considered an aging technology with limited functionality. This wasn’t the case in the mid- to late-twentieth century. For at least fifty years, work, education, and even politics were...

Avoid Insulting the Customer Obvious, right? Well, people do it without even realizing by using comments like "did you understand that?" and "are you following what I'm saying?". This automatically shrinks the customers' intelligence and ability to catch on. It is down to your own ability to make the customer understand and therefore if you feel the customer is failing to do so, use comments such as "did I explain that clearly" and so on.
