Re: Can you say Katana????

JasonR ·
Well... A couple of good things about Katanas: They were considered the "Souls of the Samurai". While the Samurai had many weapons, including bows and spears, all of them carried a Katana as well. Katanas were once a major export product for Japan, with over 200,000 a year being sent to other asian countries. A bad thing: A Samurai would only draw his katana as a last resort, doing so "Bared his soul", so he would use all other available weapons first. One thing we don't have to worry about:...

Used to use GE, left b/c their service got worse and worse...there have been a few cases where they contacted our customers offering buyout of their leased equipment. We switched to Great America. They were great for a couple of years. In our experience, GE is now kicking GA's but in rates. On a 3k deal where we're selling a payment there's $252 more gross profit with GE. Try telling a sales rep that it's worth $125 of their profit to go with another leasing company. GA's service is better...

Ricoh Dumps Global Imaging By Shelley Solheim, VARBusiness 11:24 AM EDT Fri. May. 25, 2007 Just one week after Xerox completed its $1.5 billion acquisition of Global Imaging Systems, Xerox rival Ricoh said that it is terminating its relationship with Global Imaging. The move, while not surprising, raises questions for some of the 200,000 small-to-midsize businesses that Global serves across the United States, as well as the thousands of local dealers and VARs that compete with Global's 21...

Art, thanks for your reply. A lot of GREAT points in there. I literally spent this weekend relaxing (much needed) and thinking about what you said. Here is what I've been thinking about: 12-18 months ago, I could win competitive deals quite easily with $2000 GP. Now, I'm losing with $1500 in a 45-ppm colour box. That means American pricing has flooded the rest of North America, where $1000-$1500 in GP in a commercial street deal seems to be the norm. To increase my closing ratio in...

Just another reason I don't do business with lease companies. Some maybe quite good (I hear good things about Great America), but I want to control what happens at the end.... Find a local bank, explain what you do, assign them the lease. You bill the customer and bank debits the payment from your account. E-automate makes it really easy... Have about $1.5MM on the books (including MPS contracts) and hope to hit $2MM by end of year. Never loose a customer because of the lease - rarely loose...

Hello Tony - The big question is how is this companies and owners credit is doing today? The next question is how big is the deal you are working on. This will determine what leasing company may be able to help you out with your deal. You have a few options available that work in the office imaging business: Time Payment - their rates are high, fees are high and they are tough on documentation, but they do approve customers with tough credit. Marlin - Marlin is a big step up from Time...

For that particular prospect I was reminded 4 times in a 15 minute phone call that he spent his entire career as a purchasing manager in corporate america and that him and his team would lay out the three quotes and they would pick the lowest price regardless of any factor. ebyers, ty for posting the reply. I've been out of sorts for the past few weeks with some much needed time off. Many dealers don't need to change because they are still making a great profit. Sorry, I meant GREAT profit! Thus change is not in order for them. Salespeople to make that change, it's possible, one great idea with a few bucks behind that idea could change everything. Re: Is The Time Right for Copiers to be Made in The USA Again?

I agree with Jason. It would be nice to have technology manufactured in the US in general. But at the end of the day our labor expenses and manufacturing process automation/quality assurance seem lacking in the globalized landscape. Manufacturing copiers and printers here would also involve moving the manufacturing from existing plants. In a market space where existing manufacturing is below capacity, it would make the case harder to move one. To provide a solution - why don't we reinvest in...
