How Tax Time Can Be an Opportunity to Boost Sales

Art Post ·
This guest blog was contributed by Joe Terfler. In the imaging equipment space, the majority of equipment is financed under rental/cost-per-image agreements. These agreements allow the equipment vendor to better manage long-term customer relationships, as the agreements typically allow for the return of the equipment at the end of the term. While the imaging equipment market favors these agreements, another approach that takes advantage of accelerated depreciation can benefit certain...

Miscellaneous Itemized Deductions

Deanw ·
Our outside sales people receive a flat auto allowance each month regardless of how many miles they drive. In the past they would keep track of their miles and deduct them (less the allowance we provided them). With the new tax changes I'm hearing that employees can no longer deduct meals, travel and other expenses. I'm interested to what ideas the group has to minimize the impact of this change to outside sales reps?

I assume you are talking about the changes that the Trump administration put in place which have nothing to do with the 2017 filing many of us are working on now. I am nowhere close to a tax professional so don't take anything I say here as gospel. I am not aware of those business deductions being removed. However, with the new higher standard deduction, it is very likely that most of us will be filing short forms next year. It doesn't mean that we don't get the deductions...quite the...

I was aware of entertainment expenses, but was not aware of mileage and meals. I will need to check with my accountant. I found this: https://www.forbes.com/sites/k...it-use/#57f0780d7631 really didn't help that much. My accountant is swamped right now. I'm somewhat concerned since I drive 25K plus every year. Hoping OLD Glory has got it right.

One of my reps came and mentioned milage as well. Pretty bold - he walked in and said you guys are going to need to do something for us next year since we can't deduct mileage anymore. I don't do too well with "demands"

Re: Leasing in the Imaging Channel - Pre and Post-Virus

SalesServiceGuy ·
I have been having some arguments with my three preferred leasing vendors that with interest rates now at historical lows, their rate cards have not changed since Jan 2020 and earlier. I argue that their cost of money has gone down and yet they are charging the same rates. They counter argue that it has become more expensive to raise the necessary debt to fund new leases. I counter argued that most leases are renewals so they are not really funding new debt. I realize that argument is an...

COVID19 "Remote Working" Day Ninety-Six of Selling

Art Post ·
I had one appointment today and that appointment was more of a holding hands session with their new copier. I didn't mind because I put the top down on the hardtop and worked on my tan for about 90 minutes with the drive back and forth from the home office. Every time I drive to this client I take the same route. That route takes me past the Garden State Parkway and Route 520 exit. The parkway is a major artery that leads to North Jersey and that's where many of the jobs are. At this...

How vendors can put Section 179 to work to sell more before year’s end

Art Post ·
If you’re an equipment vendor, learning more about how Section 179 of the IRS tax code works could help you sell more – and help your customers get the equipment they need while saving some money on their taxes. Scroll to disclosure: 1 In a nutshell, Section 179 lets businesses deduct the full purchase price – up to $1,080,000 – of qualifying equipment financed during a given tax year. For vendors, raising your customers’ awareness about that provision – including that they can take the full...
