Re: Will outside Sales Rep's go away?

John Saramak ·
In 10 years there WILL be outside sales reps, and many of them will be the committed, true professionals of today. The E-Commence platform have changed our business and how we do it. For example gone are the days when you could duck into a 15 story office building and cold call. But electronic format can still be your attention getter and facilitate your efforts in creating interest. I can buy anything on line and cut out the sales person. Try doing your own investing and getting the right...

This was an article from the NY times over the weekend! SHIBATA-MACHI, Japan — When the ground shook violently on the afternoon of March 11, the ceiling collapsed in part of the huge Ricoh copier factory here, exposing the vents and wires above. The offices at the Ricoh plant near Sendai are still in disrepair; workers have focused on restoring the factory and production. The ceiling is still not fixed. But employees are back at their posts, working under temporary lighting and wearing hard...

Wow. OK, I've never seen a study that didn't CLEARLY show total US print declining every single year since the 1990's. An account can still grow, of course, and you could be fortunate and have a mix of accounts that grow. But just looking at office paper shipments shows a constant decline every year. I think we're right at the stage where 50%+ of workers will never print until they have to "take something to the old man for approval". They'll just never have developed the habit of printing,...

Born in '64, dittos on the stroll. Rode my bike everywhere until I could drive. Even rode it into parked car once and dented the fender. I owned up (because that's what we were supposed to do) and went to the door and told the man. My dad paid for the repair, and I had to work it off with dad. I was more afraid of what my parents would do to me than the police. Only had to worry about grades if I made lower than "B", 'cause that was failing in my parent's eyes. Every evening to put together their next day. Never...never come into the office and not know what you're doing the minute your feet...

This means you must continuously learn about the technology that you build solutions around. And that technology changes at least a little with each new product that is released into the field. Then you must know the pros and cons of your product as it relates to your competition. Then you must take that knowledge and learn the skill to...

Got it, well they are not A4, alas will this be a missed opportunity with the market changing to A4. Xerox, Samsung, Muratec and Sharp (Frontier, just heard their first commecial last night) all have seen the light with the coming of age of A4. I'm sure these units will be fantastic, however it will be tough to comepete in a tough economy with the likes of the Sammy 40ppm color that has an MSRP of under $6,500. I can't wait for the Big Launch to learn more about these units!!!

I do however still go on many appointments and calls where the client has absolutely no clue what they want or anything. I'm with Art, I can barely...

That's hilarious. I forget what I ate for dinner last night too... I think a call-in where they have a model and accessories in mind is certainly a deal that is to the end of the buying process and they are just validating the price. (Keeping them honest.) However, I wonder about early in the buying process: where do they go to get their initial questions answered? What do they find online? What could you serve up that would be helpful--and get you found? Once they found you, would the find...
