May I put in a plug for my personal cause? As a volunteer at our county's animal shelter, I see first hand the good work this shelter does(as well as all the others around the country). There are so many wonderful, wonderful pets languishing in kennels that are simply awaiting a chance to have a home of their own with a loving family. People can be so incredibly cruel to animals. Thanks Montecore, That makes sense from a business standpoint. I'm still having a hard time with the math though. If you are trying to figure out the effective purchase price, but only know the monthly lease payment, # months, and lease rate - do you have any ways to figure out the purchase price? 0.0302 percent of $6,200 is $198 so that only adds up to $6,339. But if you subtract $6,537 by $6,339 then you get $198 again. Suggesting that the purchase price is roughly 2 times the total lease...

The mind boggles! So the customer has the software applications that you reference and you are trying to find them a 'cheap' 'solution'......? Why? They have spent tens of thousands of dollars on those applications..all of which enhance their productivity as a law firm. You have a comprehensive solution to leverage (i.e. make work better!) each of their committed software applications and you think it might be 'expensive'? Come on, you have done more than most competitors simply by the fact...

All six cities are in Canada? Is there such a feature as fax and scan from a third party supplier, if there is just put fax boards in the mfp's. Can a programmer write the code in java to work on the mfp's? Thoughts, very interesting threads from everyone.

I think it is obvious what you do with people who don't want to work. It is just as obvious what to do with people who DO want to work! Incentives can be a great way to move a product or idea, but dis-incentives are more personal and can be very disruptive for that individual (ie: income tax, sales activity micromanagement). I almost feel this is a chain letter where you replace the name of the company at the top and it becomes a generic gripe about any company. How many IKON's have a "Copy Guy" who makes copies? ... on a separate note, I also worked for IKON and found it to be a horrible place to work. 10 years later, I feel the same way about IKON and do not feel the same about my current employer.

First of all... did a "friend" tell you this or did a "friend" forward you an email that said a "friend" had told them this? I used to work for a dealership that sold Sharp (when this came out). It is a very nice box, the ultrasonic feeding in awesome, and the pricing for parts and consumables is aggressive. The mistake that Sharp made was to not do a beta program with commercial printers and other high volume users. The irony of Larry's statement is that I would not consider Ricoh a player here. They are chasing Xerox, Canon etc in Seg. 6 and 7, and are seriously held back by their lack of a production color unit.

Something to think about as well, adding to what was mentioned by Mega. The Japanese division is making the bulk of their profits on the manufacturing of toner. That is the money tree for them. They sell to Ricoh USA and they work through their channels to distribute the boxes. The ultimate goal is to “place the box” Ricoh USA makes their overhead by the profit on the box moving it to the Dealer and other channels. Not only are the less than ethical copier sales people in the world, there are just as bad Lease sales people. When these two parties collude together the customers best interests are never at the top of the list. You cannot assume that the good Lease sales rep you work with has the same personal value system as the competition. You have a suggestion to replace Work-around? When there is currently no solution to a problem, a work-around is put in place which lets you finish the job in an alternate way with the same results. Usually it will require additional steps and will only be in place until a full solution to the problem can be implemented. Whew! I'd rather say work-around

I've been able to work a few large bids and find it hard to believe that there was a "rogue" sales person. When numbers get this large they need to be checked more than four or five times to make sure you have understood all of the programs. Almost no idea what you are talking about. In my experience, people who have workflows that would benefit from storing images to the copier also need a Fiery controller. In those types of worflows with high-res color images, its quite easy to wind up with very large files. I've seen files stored on the Fiery that were more than 1GB for a single file. There is no specific volume which will become infliction point of cannabalisation...it we be based on the Vendors' being able to educate the customers. Most(over95%) of the current print/copy volumes is only A4, hence there is a strong point in A4 eating into A3 market. It is propelled by serious ATL work done by companies like HP. We are currently seeing a correction in the market. What we sold for $15,000 three years ago we are now selling systems of equivalent value for less than a third. The market is largely oblivious to the selling features that used to give the higher priced systems their value. They didn't need the features to begin with. We are only seeing the tip of the iceberg..... New channels of distribution for enterprise print delivery, channels that tend to work off less robust margins than copier...

The above software does not work properly after inital install unless you Stop/ Start the Print Spooler found under Services in Control Panel/Admin Tools. Except for Job Accounts none seem to work well with Dept Codes turned on.

When you say you take a copier to a customer for a demo... Is it a Conditonal Sale? I will do this but only on the terms of if the MFP works as described you agree to buy/ lease that same unit without any further demos. I have seen too many potential customers do the Vendor merry go round with six copier vendors to get free copiers for several months. I have seen too many RFQs where a customer has to get three quotes and you are unexpected lowest bid. They ask you in for demo but never...

Mostly due to different controllers rendering in different ways, and the engines being different. Hey, it may still work out, I've got a pretty discerning eye for prints over the years.

Let me further clarify my post. My understanding is this, Ratio Germany has filed for bankruptcy and no longer doing business. Ratio America is now its own entity and doing business seperately. They drive the Plotbase PM website and are selling Plotbase/Rip Cube etc. There is legal discussions that will allow Ratio to work with Ricoh. I think Ricoh recognizes the embedded is not sufficient but is tied legal on their actions. Also, Ricoh is still provide tech support for the controllers that...

I agree, the PCL5 is better for older applications. However, at some point I feel like you have to go with the new stuff and see if you can make the switch...I've had fairly good luck up until now and when there is a problem (usually a medical office printing from practice management or EMR software that is older). Try this: Instead of browsing from the copier to set the path use Web Image Monitor to manually enter the path, user name and password. For some reason this works with Windows 7 when nothing else will. Also using the IP address instead of the computer name in the path seems to work.

Not necessarily a good thing. Its just one part of its new "ecosystem" of information and communication technologies that go beyond print. I could see this tech having a similar impact on meetings as GotoMeeting or Webex did when they came out, which I use a lot. Who knows if Ricoh has the tech or vision to make it work. They are just saying they are going to try. I could see this being a good fit for armed services, government, major corporations, and distributed mid-size corps.

I've had customers say that it is "cool" and that they will install that on every PC instead of regular print drivers (what a nightmare that would be), but when it comes down to it, they just do what they are accustomed to. It would be much more useful if it would work w/ mobile Android/iPhone/Blackberry such as smartphones and tablets. Since it only works on Windows-based PC's, its usefulness is extremely limited.
