Re: MPS And Profit

txeagle24 ·
There are a number of factors that impact start-up cost for MPS clients. In the traditional "copier" world, prior to putting machines under contract we would inspect them, perform service to bring it up to spec and bill the client. In MPS, we just put them under contract, so the start up cost can be virtually nothing or cost an arm and a leg depending on the condition of the machines that are being placed under an MPS Agreement. Another factor is how much toner the client has on hand prior...

Louis: Trying to remember the name of the report, ah yes, Larry Hunt. Kinda pricey for the reports and it's a hot and miss when he publishes the cost per page that printers are charging for color and black. I used to get em for free, however my source dried up for this, he figured that since he buys several production units every three years he can start a subsription when he's ready to buy again, anyway here;s the link: http://www.larryhunt.com/in-the-news Anyone know of any other sources???

Sharp MFP's have been able to do that for years as well, 3 customized buttons on the main screen, the new UI will allow you to put up to 18 customized buttons on each page, with up to 15 pages available on the Home Screen, this can be done from the panel. You can also add buttons for any of the OSA connectors you may need, for example a connection to your Document Managment System, Fax Server or Cost Accounting application. There are 24 loaded languages that can be easily tied to the user's...

GMAN Never thought of that with either Ed or Pietrunti, either one may play well for Ricoh. More importantly I think the industry as a whole is struggling to find and identify new ways to make profit with the slow demise of the printed and copied page. Quietly Ricoh has launched a new start up and site for it's eWriter solution. It's an imprtant step for at least one of he manufacturers to identify the loss of clicks, thus the eWriter solution model is based on SAS (Software as a Service).

Assuming that this is a municipal account in the state of New Jersey.....this would be the Kyocera 48-month cost per copy program on state contract. You pretty much can't beat it on price unless you also have the state contract cost per page program. Your only hope is to sell yourself and the value of your company and also to get them to get a demonstration of the equipment before signing the contract. The Kyo equipment is not as nice as the Ricoh gear or as user friendly in my humble...

I think Old Glory means A4. Remember, 4 is less than 3 (it's a metric thing). You should be able to create an "envelope printer" by installing a second instance of the printer with the same IP address. In the PCL 6 driver (not universal), you can go into the printer properties, print preferences, detailed settings and rotate the image 180 degrees. When you say the printer "red lights", what is the error? Is it a paper type mismatch? If so, what is it calling for? How may envelopes are they...

Hmm. Good point. I guess the question is more how do they click than what the process is. I can't believe after 10 years in the B2C market we're still debating these simple questions and it doesn't seem like anyone (self included) knows the true answer. I thought what happened was when a document contained some color in it the document used processed color to make black...this would allow the machine to run at full speed etc...but it would only click color for the pages containing color and...

Old Budget is $101,500. New "total cost" for "lease-purchase of copiers and service" is $92,000. Cost per page is $0.04. Volume is 7 million per year. 7 million x $0.04 = $280,000 per year just for the clicks. I'm going to guess this is simply a case of bad reporting and not a case of the school board being unable to add.

Guys, I have seen this happen on a MS Publisher document where they placed what appeared to be a grayscale image but it was saved in an RGB colorspace. And it DID click the color meter for that page. Just because something appears to be black doesn't mean it does not have color data. If the MFD sees color data it clicks the color meter no matter how it "looks" to the end user. Vince

Re: Huge MPS RFP!!

JasonR ·
It is interesting. Based on the figures they provided, their cost per page is ~2 cents. I find this hard to believe. Either a large amount of the 200k prints is done on a very efficient device or they are printing pages with very low coverage. They have more 1102w's than any other device. at 5% coverage, that device costs $0.0425 just for toner. I'm doubtful the total expense can be half that.

The Ricohs have been slow sellers is not because of end user needs or wants. Basically ours is a quota/revenue driven business from the top to the bottom. The preferred compensation model for commissions is that of a revenue based plan with commissions. Why have a GP driven comp plan for your sales people when your Dealership or Branch has a revenue based quota plan from the manufacturers? It just doesn't make sense. Rep in my office was up against Canon today and they were beating us up on a 33 per minute A3 so he tried to work it out by proposing the new model. Only one problem, Canon is in at $0.0083 per page on the service. We figure we can go no lower on a cpc on this product than $0.0149. So how's that going to work with mps when I'm seeing mps at below a penny a page?

Re: Why is single clicking an 11×17 on a “copier” legal?

Actually, the real misleading practice is when the machine is set to double-click 11x17. It is one piece of paper, one printed page, one click. Like having a car odometer that registered two miles when you drove the car one mile uphill, or registered two miles when you drove one mile at high speed. The industry simply developed its own conventions with the single/double click convenient for both the end-user and the dealer. Rather than a click rate for each paper size (similar to two...

I thought before the age of the "cost per page" agreements that all systems double clicked for 11x17. I had heard many years ago a that Canon was the first to introduce a system that single clicked for 11x17 and had also heard that the single click was not the intent and it was a mistake. Anyone else hear that? Also with testing on some of my 11x17 laser printers, they all single click for 11x17.

Re: New Color Cost Per Page Poll for 30-44 ppm COLOR

I don't base my pricing on per page. I base it per click ( click is 8.5x11 or 8.5x14 image 11x17 is 2 clicks). Then my rates are progressive. I charge a base of $50 per month plus .07 per click. If they run 1k then their cost is .12 per click ( $50 divided by 5k equals .05 plus the .07 equals .12). If they run 5k their cost is .08 per click. If they run 10k their cost is .075.

The new series of Kyocera colour MFP's that was introduced last summer provides the means to set three tiers of counter for colour based upon the coverage of colour on the page. This permits setting three price levels based upon the amount of colour coverage. The settings can be adjusted by the dealer to fit their price model. It means you don't have to pay a full colour page price when you print a small colour item, say a logo, if the contract is set up this way. We just won a large...

I don't see how this can be an effective product in an MPS strategy beacuse of the high cpp. It has more speed and a much more modern and user-friendly appearing interface than the Savin 920spf but run a comparison of the CPP between the Savin 920spf cost per page and the 4410SPF cost per page and tell me which you would rather support - many times we are charging between .01 and .015 for service and supplies - how can we do that on this product and make a profit? - I just don't see it.

The manufacturers are trying to transition to a services-based business model in which they make their profit from service rather than hardware. If they were to release an A4 printer/MFP with the low hardware cost of most A4 devices and the CPP of an A3 device, they shoot themselves in the foot. At some point, A4 devices will have close to the same CPP of A3 devices, but it won't be at the beginning of the lifecycle of this product category/niche.
