Art, love this! You know my take on the integration of social into the sales process. Sales requires hard work as most will not put forth the effort. The reason why ones social anything stinks is their effort, plain and simple. Operating with an analig mindset in a digital world = death blow to a sales rep.

You have to change your mindset and stop thinking like a copier provider. You need to understand the printing industry and its special needs, and how your equipment and service fits into that world (not, how printers fit into the copier world). My advice is to go lurk on printplanet.com .

Haha, Thanks Shaja....I did some lurking on PrintPlant too Looks like the keys are quality output, reliability, and availability of service techs. Big advantages of the copier-makers' presses are price, size, and operator payroll cost savings. overall though it looks like the copier makers' presses are not replacing the indigos and iGens of the world. More like they are replacing lower-end light production systems.

The Chinese YUAN has only marginally changed in the last 12 months compared to the USD. I have read on CNBC that this could be as much a result of Chinese Govt manipulating their currency on the world market to be undervalued to encourage exports.

While it is probably fair to say that the majority of new copiers/ printers in the world are now manufactured in China, these facilities are owned by Japanese companies.

Not only are the less than ethical copier sales people in the world, there are just as bad Lease sales people. When these two parties collude together the customers best interests are never at the top of the list. You cannot assume that the good Lease sales rep you work with has the same personal value system as the competition. Does most of the business world really have *no* minimum amount of copies included? Obviously, including 30% more than you are going to run is a bad idea, but if a minimum is set at a reasonable level, it's easier to budget your expenses. Also, reconciling those overages on a quarterly or semi-annual basis would help even out the peaks and valleys.

Wow!!!! This is a killer all right.....how in the world can we compete against a 25ppm A3 machine with a price like that. From what I know this is stripped down compared to most 25ppm systems. There are many options that are standard on others. That is why this is so cheap. If someone just needs a barebone system at an incredible price this is it.

I would not sell the 5100 or 7140 without a Tameran stacker or finisher of some sort attached too it. Last year I sold a 7140 (the 14 D per minute) to a busy contracting office. First one I ever did. Delivered the machine with Ricoh's standard output attachments. I found out real quick that in the real world the Ricoh output attachments are useless. The combination of the machine being so fast and multiple users sending various size prints to the machine before previous jobs were removed...

There are a number of factors that impact start-up cost for MPS clients. In the traditional "copier" world, prior to putting machines under contract we would inspect them, perform service to bring it up to spec and bill the client. I think Ricoh waited so long to release an A4 system like this for the fear of what it will do to the A3 business. I know my Sr. Management is concerened that reps will start selling A4 systems to replace existing A3 systems and drive revenue down. The perfect spot as everyone has pointed out is in the MPS world. This product will do well to knowck out the HP, Lexmarks, etc... I wish we had it sooner.

The Ricohs have been slow sellers is not because of end user needs or wants. Basically ours is a quota/revenue driven business from the top to the bottom. The preferred compensation model for commissions is that of a revenue based plan with commissions. Why have a GP driven comp plan for your sales people when your Dealership or Branch has a revenue based quota plan from the manufacturers? It just doesn't make sense. I thought he was referring to the Ricoh color A4's as those are the ones that I knew about. I have not seen an A4 Ricoh that fits this class. What is this quota???? Don't live in a quota driven world. I will say this though. 2011 sucked. It didn't suck as bad as 2010, 2009 or 2008. How I look at things. In 2008 I did 40% less than 2007. In 2009 I lost another 10% on top of the 40% from the previous year. In 2010 I lost another 5% on top of the two previous. In 2011 I was up about 15% over 2010. January of 2012 was strong.

An interesting note about the above mentioned e2050c in the news release, this might be one of the very first MFPs to offer a SSD (Solid State Drive) as memory storage. I am not quite sure of the advantage of that but Toshiba is the #1 or #2 supplier in the world for SSDs.

In the HP World, the same ctg can be filled with MICR toner or standard toner & the machine will print accordingly. So just filling the same ctg with MICR or Non MICR toner is the only difference. But finding a MICR version toner for the Ricoh printer ctg you want will be the challenge. One of the large ctg remanufacturers would be the best place to look.

watch out for CHINA, no other country has anywhere near the population, nor the revenues that China is accumulating. the next war may not be a war of the military but a war of crippling a nations economy and stealing data/secrets/intellectual property. While everyone is watching the arab spring, Iraq, Afganistan, the europe debt crisis, CHINA is the sleeper that is on it's way to become a military and econmoic powerhouse. They are already flexing their muscle with loaning money to the world.

Yoda you bring up a good point here, after being with the same dealership for 13 years much of my time is spent with helping customers with questions, emails, and onsite follow ups for product questions, advanced training, billing questions, lease billing questions, moves, and many more.
