Re: Halftones w/JP8500 & Quark

JasonR ·
Quick note about Quark and LPI. First the obvious thing, changing LPI will change the size of the dots in your Photo. a low LPI, like 60 will make the dots in the photo readily apparent(not always a bad thing). A high LPI like 133 will make the dots so small many pictures will come out as a big blob of ink on the duplicator. Secondly, Quark will downsample any TIFF image to twice the resolution of your LPI, so a 65LPI setting means you are printing 130dpi TIFFs, again, this isn't such a bad...

Re: P4P WIDE FORMAT COLOR

John ·
There are no laser based wide format color systems out there from the major manufacturers. If there are, they are price prohibitive. What your customer would find would be a couple of systems to meet his or her needs. Oce has a TCS400 system which is a separate scanner, controller and printer. They can scan the color document and direct it to print on the inkjet printer. No doubt an expensive output solution because it is ink based. Probably looking at the $40,000 range for this one. Re: SERI Launch Date

Art Post (Guest) ·
Ah........, the long awaited SERI printer. This devices wroks in tandem with any of Ricoh's Digital Duplicators. It actually allows duplicators to print onto alternative media, such as "Tyvek", "Coated Stock" and other stock where the ink was not drying. The SERI dries the ink by passing the paper and ink from the duplicator under a UV light. This process also allows Ricoh to now release "transparent inks", meaning CMYK printing can be accomplished. To me the Seri gives us a new market, that...

FYI, SeriPrint is compatible with JP5000/5500/8000/8500/TC2 only. When tied into the SeriPrint system, the unit is no longer able to print with the standard emulsified ink offering, as the SeriPrint unit has top mounted rollers at its' exit section, which would cause surface trailing as the emulsified ink would not have enough time to dry. Mind you, who would want to print with "dry-time consuming" inks when you can print with something that dries instantaneously, when "flashed" with UV?

Masters retail for $51 and 250 masters per roll Black Ink is $29.50 I know you know this Art but for those who are less informed regarding digital duplicators, Ink yield is highly contingent upon average run length. An 8.5"x11" original with 6% page coverage will only get 5,000 copies from a tube of ink if the average run length is only 25. However, the same original will yield 35,000 copies from a tube if the average run length is 1,000. Most of the ink ends up thrown away on masters if the...

This is such an exciting product, due to the new master technology. Can't wait for it to filter up to the new HQ series in 400 & 600 DPI. For example, low end would be good quailty, followed by better quality up to maybe best quality, or something like that. Attached is the PSG for the 4500, which has a great explanation of the...

There is friction feed with air separation on all the current production machines. So they have rollers that actually feed the paper and there are fans that blow the paper apart to help prevent multifeeding and it also helps if the paper sticks together and won't pull out of the tray.
