I would suggest that it is as important to understand the industry you are working with as it is to understand your product/service/solutions offerings. To use commercial print as an example, make sure you understand your customers long term goals and take those into account. What do I mean by this? Is your customer interested in status quo, do they know about or understand the trans-promotional initiatives, are they trying to transition more into digital print or are they trying to drive...

I had gotten the name of the type of card from the GM and I called the card manufacturer and the Technican I spoke with said the cards were MIFARE. My understanding of the cloud solution would allow guests to login to their google docs or sharepoint account for direct prints. What other options are available? The hotel's mainframe is on a program called OPERA. I like the credit/card/bill/coin-op solution, I hadn't thought about that. Additional food for thought.... Are there any card readers...

Old Glory, Not sure how long the MF version has been in play. I've only been back in the industry since January and my new dealership already had some PaperCut installations when I arrived. The software does have the behavior modification pop-ups you are referring to, and I'm told specialized scripts can be easily written to force almost any behavior. For instance, during a WebEx last week my PaperCut account rep told my client of a PaperCut installation in which the user set up a rule that...

Particularly for large MPS engagements, there can be substantial costs that are absorbed by the provider at the beginning of a contract. These costs are due to repairing printers that have been in need of major repairs, stocking toner in advance of billing, high-CPP printers in a competitive transaction, etc. It can take over a year for some of these large engagements to reach profitability, and it seems like that Auxilio only engages with large healthcare clients. In healthcare, if the...

Wow. OK, I've never seen a study that didn't CLEARLY show total US print declining every single year since the 1990's. An account can still grow, of course, and you could be fortunate and have a mix of accounts that grow. But just looking at office paper shipments shows a constant decline every year. I think we're right at the stage where 50%+ of workers will never print until they have to "take something to the old man for approval". They'll just never have developed the habit of printing,...

Just read this post and wanted to add my comments. I ship a lot of product outside the USA and there are 2 important points that will protect you: 1. Ship all products using INCO Terms EXW your location. This means the buyer is responsible for all shipping, duty & taxes once the product leaves your possession. 2. Maintain a wire account with a minimum amount of money in it. Have the buyer wire the money to this account and as soon as the funds hit your account transfer the money to your...

Interesting... Did you find anything of interest in the sent folder? I wonder what he did to get it blacklisted. The downside of internet security is that you have to rely on other people to uphold your security. This could have been something as simple as you having an account on another website. If that site has weak security and unencrypted passwords you're screwed. I'm still receiving emails as normal, btw.

I think our industry needs a new business model. It needs to be leass about the product and more about solving business solutions and capturing page volume in the account. The industry has talked a lot about this over the years with things such as solution selling and managed document services. However, at the sales level we are still focused on pushing "boxes" and chasing the revenue associated with equipment sales. This is a generalization of course, there are many sales reps selling...

POP3 accounts are for recieving e-mail. If Scan Router PRO tries to recieve e-mail to deliver to a fax or something like that it will need POP3 information. Similar to the NIC fax unit on the 5510NF. If you don't need it to do POP3 recieveing and can turn it off, do that. The other option is to set up a "ghost" e-mail account to send the POP information to. SOME ISP's require POP authentication prior to allowing you to send SMTP e-mail. Some require POP and SMTP authentication and others...

Well, there are a couple of ways to look at it. The fact of the matter is, the Canon dealer probably doesn't have a very good handle on the situation. And if the client is running a high percentage of 11x17, then they are going to lose out in service and supplies. We charge 2 clicks for 11x17. And, although I may lose a deal every now and then, by not being close enough to make a difference, we aren't going to lose our pants on mismanaging service. If the sale is hinging on $27.50 a month (equates to $990 over three year lease). There is alot you can do to close the deal in your favor!
