Re: Fax vulnerability in HP all-in-one printers

fisher ·
One of my large medical accounts contacted me about this one. They were totally freaked out over this potential threat even though they had no machines in their fleet with the vulnerability. Meanwhile you could walk to almost any fax machine in any of their locations and grab patient info from the fax trays.

KIP now has a contract with Global, however with the AEC market still in the dumps is that enough to help? My it seems everyone now has the KIP product and OCE and Ricoh are now in the minority. Ricoh has better get thier act together quickly in the US, it seems no one thinks a 4ppm device LED device is needed here in the US. What they don't know is that probably 75-80% of my 240W and W2400 placements average under 1,000 square feet a month. Thye have a refresh coming of the 10ppm and 14ppm...

Re: 240w meter count?

Yes, the 240W only counts Linear feet, and the manual says the drum and developer should go about 90,000 l.ft. The corona wire goes 20-30k, drum blade about 40-50k, we regularly get over 100k on the drum, except for damage. There were a few drums 2-3 years ago that would give ghost image problems on large jobs (over 70 sheets). this happened when the drum was a couple years old, but only had 30k ft. Reprographic Technologies has a great drum that I think is superior to the OEM, and costs...

The PC's that w installed with the 240W's hold the plotbase software and all the licenses for scanning and printing along with the print card or interfa card. Not sure which one. But one of those cards are in the PC that was sold with the 240W. You can buy licenses, however there are no more cards (Printer controller and interface) avaialable new. I would call the wholesaler and tell him the deal, maybehe cfind you a card. This isone of the reasons why you need to be authorized for Ricoh...

Thanks for the info. The 2 roll drawer is what I need for our first sold order and we just placed the second 240W order, which requires the 1 roll drawer. Our DSM led us to believe that the timeframes were the same on both drawers, but hopefully I'll receive the 1 roll drawer order quicker.

Hey p4p hotel. I just wanted to thank you for your website. I had a deal signed on the 240W and was waiting for the equipment to arrive (some of which was on backorder). In the interval Xerox sent my customer a postcard on the 8830. They were $6000.00 cheaper on the equipment and the customer canceled our order. After reading the information on your site I went back to him with a TCO comparison and got the deal back. Your maintenance figures on the 8830 were right on the money. He was also...

One of my techs has advised me that the 240W is extremely sensitive if not leveled properly thus resulting in copies not exiting and stacking correctly. I have heard no complaints from the field but I know that my demo unit is fine now that he has leveled it. Just a thought.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, the customer that needs this capability will only be buying the 240W as a stand alone unit so that will not work.

Change SP 5965 from 1 to 0. You must have hard drive installed. This will allow you to: make a copy from the 240W. Afterwards, you can select any amount and press start without rescanning the original. The machine will hold the scan until auto reset or clear mode is pressed.

Moreover, the speed and functional superiority of our equipment outdueled HP this time. Pricing: We were about the same. Maintenance Costs: About the same. Running cost per square foot...about 1/2 of HP. Again, thanks for the help.

One of my coworkers made a great observation the other day. He said "Selling software isn't selling solutions, it's still "moving boxes" they are just smaller." The SOLUTION comes from how we integrate the software, hardware and workflow to solve a customers problem, even if they didn't know they had one. My best solution this year involved a sale of a 240w, but the solution part was going into the customer's office, examining their workflow for engineering documents, training the customer...

The 240w is generating an error, the display on the 240w shows nothing out of place but the Plotbase software detects the error and won't print until the error is cleared. Unfortunatly, the solution in my situation was to disable the Stamp board in Service Settings. This option is turned on by default even if you do not have a stamp board. Some more points. Windows Driver is GDI only! Probably very slow when printing pdf from various clients! Users can't stack scan like the 240W, the must scan and remove each page one at a time. Another waste of time! You must press the stop button after every copy (got this right from the OP manual). No Photo exposure, no text photo, all I saw in the manual was three adjustments for Contrast and three adjustments for Exposure. Shaft Paper Roll! Hold onto to your back and clear a large space...

Checked out the new Xerox at a customer's site and this is what I found: Meter reading displays separate meter read for each roll. Need to slide doc feed forward and actually lift off the machine to clear jam in doc feed area. Originals are right justified to scan or copy versus centering like the 240W. To make copy, you need to use touch screen panel to select "Synchro". If you don't select, you will get a copy that is a standard size with lots of blank paper around the image. Scan to...

Bandit is right on this. I was getting misfeeds like crazy at a demo. So on a 2 roll machine, I changed the 36" to a 24" roll and it ran through. Sure enough, the "dental floss" sized piece of paper came out on top of the print. Also, if you are getting misfeeds. Look for loose wires in the roll engine. We transport our demo models around and the jostling caused the wires to come loose. Be careful with the wheels on the 240w too...not very durable (and in their defense, they aren't meant to...

Is "Wide Scan" available on the 240W? Also, does anyone know of any potential firmware upgrade that would allow any of models to APS for non-standard sizes? When it comes time to upgrade, I think that they would look to another manufacturer that can provide this function.

There is a software that will convert PDF files to DXF files and you can bring these into Acad. The product is called AIDE PDF to DXF Converter and you can download a free trial. Just do a search on the web and check it out. I have a customer who will be buying a 240W and doing this using this software however... the software requires a PDF vs 1.6 type. Our next release of the software will create this type of PDF file. In addition, Acad 7 allows you to bring DWF files in and draw over them.

I would be interested in knowing this as well. As far as additional copies on the 240w. That is a setting that has to be changed by the tech during setup. Re: ISIS Drivers

Unfortunately I think this is pretty unlikely. Since the 240w only scans thru the proprietary Ratio card and scantool, the chance of an ISI driver being able to communicate with it is slim. Your best bet will probably be to scan the TIFFs to a folder and have the scanning or document imaging package pick them up from there. There's also the "archive" function in Scantool if they are going to an imaging package, this gives you the opportunity to write indexing information for each scan as it...

I agree we have the best product! Hope the account is not Xerox incumbent. I lost to a 6204 about six weeks ago, I tried by best to point out the differences however what I did not do is have the customer agree that he needs the Features, Advantage and Benefits of the 240W. After Monster Garage I have changed my tactics to have the customer agree to these points. 1. Have the customer agree that they need an external controller, not embedded. Tell them the FAB on the Plotbase Controlller. 2.

My biggest concern is the lack of acknowledgement from Ricoh that color scanning is going to be a big deal. I've already lost a couple of deals to Kip's color scanning capabilities. I'm not sure what Ricoh is thinking with the discounts to WF only dealers and not to full line dealers. Seems like another way for the dealers to fund Ricoh's market share expansion. Couple of new things I found out about the w2400-w3600 today, the system will be capable of reading either Linear Feet or Square Feet (Yea!!)! The ability to use web image monitor in order to merge existing Legacy Documents with new documents, this can all be done through the Document Server. Also, we can store scanned sets of drawings in the email section of the hard drive (document server) so they can be eamiled out on a moments notice to any and all cleints that are in the address book!

I agree that the 470W is priced a little on the high side, especially considering that the controller options are more than the 240W but they are the same? However, isn't the 470W 7D's per minute versus 6D's? This would lower your calculations to some degree and perhaps more in line? (Interesting way to calculate cost difference per machine. I would not have thought to do it that way. I like it.)
