repost from the league In response to your issues - yes - Ricoh is following/benchmarking Oce's practice of setting up dealer vendors at local repro shops that sell only Ricoh wide format (instead of full product line). This has been a successful model for Oce and I could only imagine that Ricoh wants to follow suit. Duncan-Parnell is a Carolinas based Wide Format Repro/Surveyor Supplies/Xerox full line wide format dealer with roughly 1,200 wide format placements in this area. They have just...

Thanks Doc....you are right and that is what I do...but when both companies have to trim down there pricing in a bidding war when in front of a brand new client...Ricoh is the only one that wins from that. In the short run, it makes sense to try to get your product to as many vendors as possible, but it is biting the hand that feeds you. There is no loyalty in that and this is disappointing. Plus, when the competition finally gets a 240w of there own, I don't think they will push both: they...

Re: 480W and "Hatch"?

I don't know what the white gap is off the top of my head, but seeing as we don't have this problem with any other custoemrs I'm guessing "User Error". Probably some setting in AutoCAD that controls what two lines should do when they meet, NOT a setting on our 240w (since there is no such type of control in the 240w driver).

I was at the clients office today to check out the 480W. This unit was installed a less than two weeks ago and there were spots and uneven copy quality (faded areas where their should be dense black). I also got a chance to take a look at the "hatch". The "hatch" is actually used to shade the area of an interior wall on the drawing. The shading on the 480W was not even close to what the HP did. The HP ink jet was consistant even gray over the area, ours was blotchy and irregular. I am hoping...

I also received this in an email about the roll feeder: We did an install of a 3601 a few years ago at one of his customers, and plopped it right on top of the old 240 roll feeder that they had...with no trouble at all. Hope this is all you'll need to convince "the man" !

and this: As far as "proof" that it will work...... I have been a Ricoh WF dealer for 15 years. I have installed the 2400, 3600 and the 3601 on top of 240 roll feeders. They all work. The connectors are exactly the same. The printer does not "know" what roll feed is underneath it.

Re: This Copier Changed My Sales Life 15 Years Ago this Week!

I agree with you, by 2008 the big Aficio points and the big commissions were gone. All of the other manufacturers caught up with the technology. In addition Ricoh rested on their laurels with the 240W and waited way to long to bring an upgrade to the market place. I average about 1.5 new wide formats per month, GP is significantly down, but it's now a decent revenue generator. The Ricoh MP W6700SP is now three years old and needs a refresh. What does Ricoh have in the works?

I also had a big problem with this. When the 470w was out, I kept losing to used Xerox's and OCE digital systems. So the 240w came out and I thought I had it made. Wrong. My competition was selling their product AND 240w systems...often at a lesser costs than mine. Being honest, I got pissed. However, I just accepted that new rules were now in play. Instead of blaming everyone else for this "unfair practice", I just developed a new strategy. It didn't work for every sale, but if you have...

Attached is a spreadsheet that is using data that is almost 2 years old. Since it is in Excel, you may be able to update the numbers with current data. This was provided to me by Kevin Reidy who used to be the Sr. Strategic Products Sales Manager for Ricoh. I remember him saying at the time that if an HP Plotter was going through a roll of paper a month (150 prints) then you could place a 240W for less than the supply costs of the HP.
