Thanks for the replies. We will probably do an opt out as well (as opposed to an opt-in), and base the charge on a % of total m/a billing. This is not so much to increase rev., but to cover costs and get clients accustomed to paying for the service.

Re: Leasing, Insurance, Padded Rates, Buy Out Price

Old Glory ·
In my opinion, what the dealer was funded is not material. That is between the dealership and the leasing company. If it truly is insurance to cover just the device you either insure for the amount necessary to cover the debt should something happen which would be sum of payments plus the residual value or insurance to cover the replacement cost. However, most office equipment is covered under a blanket policy covering all building contents.

Re: Are Copier Sales Reps Asking the Right Questions

As you said, this blog wasn't meant to cover all the bases but your comments about brand loyalty and brand/service provider loyalty are only true if the decision maker has been the same for each decision. If you aren't talking to the owner, you may be talking to a totally different person than the one that made past decisions. You need to know that before you decide whether to pack your bags and walk away. Also, in a leased equipment environment, the decision to stay with the same brand and...

Hrmm, well, sure they are. Notice it doesn't say anything about Service or Supplies, we can assume those are either at their normal rate or slightly elevated. It doesn't say anything about lowering the lease rate on this MFD you are buying at "cost" either, so we can assume those are also either at normal or slightly elevated. If we also assume that their sales will increase by X amount due to the promotion, the only loss they could expect from this is if X amount of additional revenue...

If Montecore's explanation didn't cover it for you, then there must be some confusion what the question is. The monthly payment divided by the rate factor is the original funding amount. You'll notice there is no multiplication in this equation so if there is in yours, then your goal must be something different than determining the original purchase price. If you are trying to replace a unit by providing something for the same monthly payment, Montecore's equation tells you what your sales...

Re: Are Step Leases ethical business practise?

JasonR ·
I've heard of similar leases, I think the intention of such leases was to have low payments for a business that has low revenue now, but expects to expand in the next two years and be bringing in additional money to cover the inflated payments. They can, of course be used by disreputable people. As far as the lease itself being unethical, I'd say it's simply a tool and the right or wrong of it depends upon its use.

Re: Q. How does your company handle networking charges?

My rule is, if they need more training, or something wrong or inconvenient with the way I set up the print scan, I'll make it right, no charge. If they add a workstation and want it configured,if they changed their router/switch, decide (after 60 days or so) they need a different configuration, or some O/S related problem, that is chargeable. A case in point, a customer called me saying his can scan to folder icon has disappeared from his desktop. I suggested that the cleanup wizard has...

I think we all struggle with where to draw the line. The point I make with my Sales force, as well as with my customers is if you come in one day and you can't scan to email, but it was working fine yesterday the customer perceives this as "my MFD is broken" because one or more of the functions have stopped working. But most of the time nothing on the MFD is broken. The configuration is the same as it has been for the last 6 months (or 2 years). What most often has changed is something on...

You may be able to sell them on the benefits of the scan to folder capabilities and the fact that the new model no longer needs that extra PC running Plotbase. Beyond that I'd say get another PC and reload plotbase but they need to be aware that the technology is moving forward and plotbase will not be supported forever.

Let's look at this from the leasing company perspective. Many of these entities will file for bankruptcy, therefore much of this debt will have to be written off anyway and the losses go far beyond any single community as you well know. In an effort to recoup something, I believe that leasing companies need to at least consider forgiving any revenue above the actual funding amount, or better yet, a pro-rated amount of the funding amount. I have a question... is the insurance provided by the...

Found out today, that Assurant does cover floods, I actually got a document from them about their services and I'll post it here later. Seems like most BOP policies will not cover floods, and Assurant will. However this leads to another issue, when leasing companies ask for "proof of insurance" and get a copy of the rider, do they not check to see if their equipment is covered in case of flood? If they miss this and do not charge for insurance is it then their loss and not the lessee? Some...
