Re: Ricoh & Epson = "perfect together" NOT!

We don't sell the Epson, I do hear that many Ricoh wide format dealers are looking to change. The W3602 is due out something this spring, Ricoh is waiting to exhaust inventories on the W3601. I have not sold a W3601 yet this year and believe I only sold a handful last year, I used to sell at least a dozen a year. The W3602 will have the GUI as the color systems and many of the same features, sad but the GUI and the MFP features will still put us way behind with the likes of KIP & Oce

If you hope to have any sort of longevity in this business, reputation is everything. The person that feels burned will tell no less than a dozen people about the bad experience they had. Obviously competition in areas varies and often dictates what we can or can't charge. However, I think the day is rapidly approaching where there won't be enough opportunities at decent commission to make a living there. My level of support is often times predicated on the size (and therefore profit) of the deal. I say deal because if a deal has the potential of a dozen SP 4410's, it may be worth top level support. When I started 30+ years ago, 100% of the copiers sold were sold by people...

You would be correct in the difference from the Papercut NG version vs. the MF version. We have sold about a dozen variations and it is a great product that makes a lot of sense. We have implemented it with MPS and MF solutions and it helps us keep the competition out. It's also great with swipe cards (HID/Kastle, etc...). Good luck.

If so, it could be a memory issue. The machine that I spoke about had the memory upgrade installed before we put it in the field. That may be the issue. Let me know what you come up with.

Art, I work in a Ricoh Direct (Lanier legacy) office located in an area where there are three local RFG competitors in our market. We have explicit instructions to disengage (turn around and walk out) if it's an IKON account or one belonging to the two other RFG dealers. Except for IKON, the dealers can compete against our MIFs and do so with no qualms. They kill us on price, too, which seems to be a different situation than is occurring in other parts of the country. As an example, a...

I'm sure different parts of the country depending upon Market area use different pricing. Keep in mind that this if this machine is going to recieve letter and legal faxes, it will only print then on letter or legal (no mixing), our solution to this was to set everyone up with fax4ward2email.

If the machines are well maintained with Ricoh supplies and parts and kept at the target volume, they (ours) generally go from PM to PM. Maybe 1 call in between. But is for instance a Gest 5502 is run at 2k a month, you will be there a half dozen times for CQ/Jams. Or a 2212 at more than 25K and you'll be clearing jams and replaceing fuser a half dozen times between PMs. Generally, these machines rum very well. Also I hve noticed that if the morale in the office is low the mchine takes the heat.

This retagged Samsung product is in my opinion below Ricoh's standards. As an independent distributor, we have sold some of the Samsungs over the past year and a half and found them for the most part to be a disappoinment. I believe Ricoh is targeting the same SOHO prospects we were when we began implementing the Samsungs. My conclusion is that these prospects are better off purchasing from retail stores if they want inferior products. There has to be a line we won't cross, and under $1000...

Re: Processor Cores

JasonR ·
You are correct that 4 cores aren't 2x as fast as two cores. As Art said, "Faster is better" and 4 cores are definitely faster. One trick here is that the cores process different threads at the same time, but don't think about it as scanning and printing and faxing. Each separate function probably has a dozen tasks associated with it and those can now be processed faster with multiple cores. Is it faster? Yes. Is this a huge deal? No. Would the customer notice any difference in the end?
