Re: HP & Ink yields, how much ink is used on a .....

Art Post ·
Like Scrat from Ice Age (pictured on the left), I've been searching for answers as to how much ink is used with a "D" (24x36) size black drawing. Two recent opportunities have me in a fight with HP ink based MFP's. Both of these are on the lower end MFP devices. I felt that if I can validate the ink cost per ml I would have a better chance of selling my toner based wide format device. I did find one recent document on the web from a dealers site that stated that 1ml of ink would be used for...

Toshiba Tec has been manufacturing inkjet print heads for industry for many years. Japanese manufacturers that make and provide copiers worldwide are facing stagnation in the demand for their products, mainly due to the market saturation in advanced countries and a reduction in profits from consumables. As a result, they have lost their investment incentive for toner-based product development. While they are aggressively investing in and developing products for production and industrial...

Great article from West! Those are some interesting stats. Regarding "Canon go Kaboom": Canon will always push hard for colour because they want to maintain their #1 spot in the marketplace. On the dealer side profitability is based on what the account needs. If a customer is doing 10 colour prints a month on an inkjet printer, dealers will sell a monochrome box. Corporate Canon on the other hand will push for a colour box, even though the colour volumes are not enough to make profit on the...

Jake: Duplicators are pretty much dead at least here in the North East, I would tend to think that the Bible Belt does much better with sales. Comcolor! Could never sell one, even though we demonstrated a few. I call it the ink technology "newspaper color". Best image is still on inkjet (rice paper), however, the cost of that paper is way to high to consider in the production market. We had a prospect that loved it for newsletters, however the first gen had too much ink bleed through on 18lb...

Re: New Canon Large Format Systems

Jason, in Canada the IPF models are sold through the dealer channel but in the US they're sold through the consumer channel. I've had a situation too where a customer purchased it in the US for less than my cost. I've had success using those systems to knock out customers who are replacing their toner-based Oce systems. They're expecting to pay $10-20,000 and a Canon inkjet plotter is $2000. There's not always great margins in them but they're a foot in the door to the MFP and supplies.
