One of my large medical accounts contacted me about this one. They were totally freaked out over this potential threat even though they had no machines in their fleet with the vulnerability. Meanwhile you could walk to almost any fax machine in any of their locations and grab patient info from the fax trays.

Art, You and I are from similar professional backgrounds and times. We started in 1980 selling Sharp and Juki typewriters. Everything sold near MSRP. Then the fax boom came and we caught that wave perfectly. We sold Ricoh thermal faxes for full list ($2995.00). The only issue was cash flow; we sold them faster than we could order and purchase them. Copier Maintenance agreements went from .022 up to .035 and did not include drums, developer, toner, fuser rollers or lamps! Also, like your...

I received a telephone help call from one of our clients who had a malfunction code on their new copier. To clear these malfunction codes it’s usually a case of opening the front door for a few seconds and then closing it again. I asked the client to do this and then come back to the telephone. He returned a few moments later and asked “now what” I asked what happened when he opened and shut the front door, did it clear the code. “no’ was the reply, “it just got colder in here” He’d opened...

Certainly not to come across as a conspiracy theorist (although that can sometimes be fun, too), but didn’t the video show that return shipping paperwork was lying on the platen glass on at least one of the copiers purchased? I wonder how many copiers in that NJ warehouse have shipping paperwork attached or simply lying under the ADF. Wouldn’t an identity thief looking to purchase a copier be able to browse the NJ warehouse looking for shipping paperwork from financial institutions and...

I have a few in the field, none with advanced services yet, overall print quality is excellent, the snazzy new screen is just that, once you make a selection you're back to the old style screen that Ricoh has had for years. I've not had the chance to add the browser yet since it is an option. I hoping to have one operational with the browser very soon and I'm going to connect with UDOCX and have some fun.

I've always remembered these quotes: The hardier I work the luckier I get. Winners make things happen, losers wait for things to happen. Be careful what you wish for. The thought of cheap price is long forgotten after poor service. I have been in the industry about 13 years, I would love to say 33 but I'm only 31 years old (just to rub it in Art!) If there is one thing I realized in my early years, you can't work somewhere for a year or so and go to the owner/manager asking for changes. You haven't earned your stripes yet, the business has seen hundreds of sales reps motivated with piss & vinegar ready to change the world and they crash and burn in the first 18 months. The typical copier vendors in my area have 50...

Here are my thoughts on it, for what it's worth... Judges out there have shown an incredible bias towards the employee when it comes to enforcement of non-competes. Basically, regardless of what you signed, they have shown across the continent that they will not allow an overly prohibitive non-compete to prevent a man (or woman) from earning a living. Basically, if haven't stolen any of their information and you're ready to accept that it wouldn't be fair, regardless of circumstances, for...

Use humor whenever possible, but avoid going "over the top" or you will lose your audience. Write in an interesting, crisp and professional manner. Make sure that your email has a purpose and that you know what you would like in return from the recipients. Sounds like another perfect opportunity to present customers with a bundled paper management solution that can save them $$$ thousands. With all the low price barracuda's out there, we have to move the customer's focus away from "cheap". Winning a deal after these low-ballers have driven the margins below sea level is not a fun way to earn a living or build a long term customer relationship. Properly presented, EPM provides powerful & compelling reasons for customers to buy from solution...

From the Ricoh's I've played around with, you can see all of the file names in the document server, but require authentication to print/send the file. Canon's units can have up to 100 mailboxes that can be individually named. Files are then securely stored inside each mailbox so that non-authenticated users cannot see what's inside someone else's mailbox.

I do a lot of "contract disassembling" and am very successful at it - It's kind of like a fun sport or hobby to me. US & UK contract law are almost exactly the same. That would be an unenforceable penalty in both UK & US. Here's a reference to "Penal Damages" on Wikipedia that refers to US law. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penal_damages Most of the people I know who work in the copier industry are of the belief that these clauses are legal and enforceable. That works to my advantage,...
