Re: Delays in Shipping of Equipment

We continually have delays with Ricoh after their so called warehouse efficiency change a year or so ago. It used to be we would have the equipment in 2 days. Now most of the time it takes about a week or so to get everything....Thats if it is not backordered. With Canon we typically have everything in 2 days, somtimes even the next day if it is ordered early in the morning. I have been told some things about the port in LA and that there are ships just sitting out in the bay waiting to come...

We have had issues with the new xx54 series Ricoh but that is not uncommon with the launch of a new model. Are you experiencing backorders elsewhere in the product line?

Right now Wide Format has been very slow for us. I have an wide format on order right now that took a week but we still don't have the roll feeder or the print. Now they tell us the print option is not available until sometime in February.

Just to update this. We are currently experiencing major backorders across the product line. Several orders I have placed are now showing 30-45 days of backorder. I still believe they hold inventory for the direct branches and the dealers are the ones who have to wait it out becuase many time if I call our Rep and make a big fuss about switching the customer to Canon they magically find what I need. It's comimcal like they found one missing in the breakroom or bathroom and will ship it out ...

What is scary is that March/April is always a bad time for back-orders as they try to juggle inventory at fiscal year-end for tax reasons. It may begin to turn around just in time to go bad again.

I just spoke to a buddy if mine who owns a company that trucks the containers from the ships to the destinations. He told me that what we are hearing from Ricoh about the back orders is 150% true. He said there are ships anchored off shore who are having to wait 15-25 days to unload cargo because of some dispute with the labor union that has everything at a standstill until arbitration works it all out. He did tell me you won't find much in the news about it and that it has not been covered...

Fortunately with us having multiple lines I don't worry as much but it is all coming from the same countries so eventually if this isn't resolved I'm sure all the other manufacturers will have the same issues once inventory in US distribution centers gets low or runs out.

12 Tips on How to Return Leased Copiers

Art Post ·
Over the years, I would say that 90 percent of my clients leased their copiers with an option to buy the copier at the end of the term. Most of these leases had a buyout option for FMV (Fair Market Value). The general idea of an FMV lease is that the customer has no intention of ever owning the equipment and they will return it at the end of the lease. Also means lowest lease payments. Most leasing companies have been and still are very aggressive with FMV rates (interest), however most will...

Newly released U.S. Coast Guard video offers visceral proof of just how extreme the congestion has become at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The new view from above reveals a vast armada of container ships scattered at anchor across California’s San Pedro Bay. As the Coast Guard footage paints the picture, the latest data from the Port of Los Angeles and from the Marine Exchange of Southern California tells the story behind those images. read the rest and see the video's

The log jam of containers waiting to be unloaded on the US West coast has caused an unexpected bidding war for empty containers to ship new goods from the Far East. I have attached a promo video from Toshiba for a new service management system. It shows what a copier warehouse can look like. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qrGdepcEn8 At the :50 mark it shows a warehouse stocked with copiers stacked six high. Copiers are usually shipped in containers across the Pacific. The double whammy of...

Supply chain woes continue Mario Cordero, executive director of Port of Long Beach in California, gave interview detailing ongoing problems - Some issues caused by consolidation of companies who own shipping containers - The top 6 container operators control more than 70% of all container capacity - As businesses try to restock after lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, they are paying 4 time more to move product compared to last year - Now are fewer routes, fewer smaller ships and fewer ports...

Saw the below in a recent on-line quote LTL freight shipping definition. Less than truckload freight shipping (LTL) is used for the transportation of small freight or when freight doesn’t require the use of an entire trailer. This shipping method can be used when freight weighs between 150 and 15,000 pounds. When shipping LTL, the shipper pays for the portion of a standard truck trailer their freight occupies, while other shippers and their shipments fill the unoccupied space. There are a...

Canon MAJOR price increase

So I guess if you ordered devices on after March 1st and they are not shipped my March 31st the 7.5% increase is retroactive. I would say that 80% of all devices will not ship in time...... See attached document for the increase

80% is a very optimistic estimate. All devices we've ordered from Canon in the past 6 months have taken AT LEAST 30 days to arrive, but 90+ days has been the "average". We still have a half dozen unreceived equipment orders from November/December with "No ETA". This increase is going to squeeze a lot of their small dealers out of selling Canon who already experienced pressures from their Price Discount Level changing last year which basically acted as a 3-4% price increase on hardware for...
