Re: Samsung Copier Million Page Test "A Tree Massacre"

VinceMcHugh ·
Art, I think Samsung needed to do this test to shut the mouths of the critics. Now anyone who wonders or asks if the Samsungs are reliable will get a link to this test. My Service guys tell me that the Samsungs have been working well! And the new MX series with the Android (OS) Tablet has been very cool. That wish list item that you asked Ricoh for has already been delivered by Samsung! I have just worked with a 3rd party tech company to get the first non-Samsung Android App ported to the...

Seems my Blog about the million page test was not that well received with Samsung. They complained to ENX Magazine who then pulled the blog off their site. Whatever happened to FREE Press? They were not happy that I pointed out that they used "x" amount of tree's for a 1980's type test! Since Samsung spends money with ENX, ENX pulled the blogs and is not posting any of my latest stuff. You know what, as far as I'm concerned we here this finance stuff about Sharp, Toshiba and none of the...

I just called one of my higher volume 470 customers and asked him the same question. He did confirm that "all plotters" will print from both model and paper space. Hey Art, Been selling WSCA for years and frankly only do it because I have to. it is a lot of work for extremely little pay. Even the service is not that great for the dealer end. So when I can I find a way around it.

Its a nightmare for dealers. Ricoh can't get their act together on the paperwork. Its a loser. Also you don't get rewards points on machines when you use this program. Avoid it unless its the only way possible.

Re: Still looking for Software Solution! HELP!

copierdude ·
Art, What is the native application the print stream is coming from? There are multiple solutions out there that can do this but some of it depends on the native application. Maybe more information could help. Also, what type of demo are they looking for? A log file output or just an automated system where they type or hit print and the command is sent automatically outputting duplex? There isn't much going on there just forcing duplex so I am curious what they are hoping to see. All the best

Re: "MFP Wars" Hi Speed A3 MFP's vs A4 MFP's

Ray Stasiezcko ·
Art, one of the problems is dealers servicing a machine for $30.00 a month. however, the reality is the industry has allowed the sales engine to destroy the service model. selling full service on A3 for .006 or less in volumes of 5k a month. Dealers were chasing sales revenue as they sacrificed service profits. As volumes continue declining so will margins. Dealers will begin realizing that all the A3 service they gave away is too costly to manage and the shift will begin. The A4...

Hi Ray I agree with the silliness of the low cost per page for A3. However most dealers have escalators that can raise the price as much as 10-15% per year whether it's A4 or A3. AS far as the $30 per month, almost no one will send out and invoice for $30 It's either billed quarterly or annually. One thing the A4 manufacturers won't due is too sacrifice the consumables. I also believe that dealers will always find a way to make their profit, whether it's Daas, flat rate, or seat based. I...

Art, another piece of the equation is that monthly units placed are 45% to 74% mono A4 in the segment 3 and segment 4 speed range. Online retail is $170 to $600 where used A3’s are three times that amount. The real question here is what these placements are doing to the service department revenue and eventually to staffing.

I've always sold A4 machines where they are a fit. There are very few A4 devices that offer a low CPC. Some carry CPCs that are very high. A bigger issue in many placements is that the Automatic Document Feeders on most A4 machines are not robust enough to meet the copy scan and fax demand. Many are complete garbage. In fact I've seen the quality of the Domument Feeders on A4 units go backwards in the last couple of years as if the document feeder is an afterthought or it is where the...

MSRP of $18k, that makes $360 on a lease. Thus, you need to find someone outsourcing. After a little research, color labels that are 4x4 cost around 45 cents each. Thus someone outsourcing 800 labels or more can be a prospect for one of these devices.

I have not seen this yet. Have you tried to scanning to thumb drive to see if there is the same issue? I remember doing a scan demonstration for a client with blank page on (or at least I do) and the speed was incredible with the thumb drive. The next option I would try is scanning to ICE, because the OCR is done in the cloud, however not sure if ICE will do blank page. Art

That IT person had also figured in the cost of the Ricoh A4 in his cost per page analysis. I couldn't argue with them but its a reminder that the total cost should...

6 Reasons Why Flat Rate Service Program Will Change the Copier Industry

I remember when plain paper copiers used rolls of paper and not sheets. I remember when the glass on the copiers had to move back and forth. I remember when copiers used liquid ink (toner) to produce an image. I remember when you used a dial to set how many copies you wanted to make. Yup, it's been a pretty incredible journey to see the industry evolve over the last 38 years! Back in the early eighties their was only one plan for a copier maintenance agreement. We included "x" amount of...

Twenty five years ago I started out as a wide-eyed journalism student working as an intern at a community newspaper. If you can sit with accounts, or get invoices, best way to go. However, if they push back on that, I fall back to "industry standards" from a TCO site like FM audit or LDI. When they question my numbers, I then use that to ask for their actual invoices so we can verify.

Re: Curious about how everyone verfies Cost Per Page

Jus an FYI - on low volume devices, or on local connected devices, we go with a flat rate per month. Much easier on all, and several years worth of history doing this in many marketplaces shows we are making money on flat rate deals.

Re: Color Cost Per Page for 2 Cents, Are You Crazy?

JC ·
Sorry, Art, this will not happen. If you spread the cost by charging more for black and white, some would buy it and only run color. It's already expensive to run black only on a color device, costing 2 to 3 times or more than on a monochrome Production machine. And even at a penny for service and supplies, monochrome margins are low on color production units.

Re: Color Cost Per Page for 2 Cents, Are You Crazy?

JC: Thanx for the comment! I should have communicated better. This would not be a pricing model for Production systems. You're right, if it was all they would run is color, however, I'm now seeing cost per page for color under 4 cents per page.

I think that while in theory this sounds good, it's not gonna fly. Already we're competing against dealers who have color clicks down to $.039 and black clicks down to $.005-$.006 on moderate speed office color units (35 & 45 ppm units). And these aren't those staggered click prices that Kyocera or Xerox dealers are offering for different forms of color (a splash, a bit, or full color). Even if they double click them, you're then back to industry standard for clicks, but most aren't...

You need to have a "Not Available" option. I just left the question unanswered but that skews the results. For instance, there is no way my company would allow a segment 2 to be placed without a base no matter the cost per image was.
