Re: What's the weirdest place you've sold a copier to?

Kiwispike ·
About to hit 17 years in the industry now so seen a few.. Sold a scanner to a strip club, I was new to the industry and just a teenager at the time - made the mistake of asking what they wanted to scan Had a "serviced" copier in a massage parlour (inherited the install base so I cant take credit for this) Sold/installed copiers/MFD's to both of the last two Prime Ministers offices/houses Installed a fax machine INSIDE a jail, there was a very dusty gap and some cables on the desk so I asked...

"Why should the local dealer expedite service, parts or put you at the top of the list for support when you did not buy from them?" I think more and more companies, our industry and others are separating the service department from the sales dept so much that each will be required to stand alone if necessary. There has always been a gap between sales and service and who wins is usually dictated by whether the person at the top came from sales or sevice. At some point the service dept is...

I’m a little late to this party but had the thread open since it was posted. As a 35 year old i straddle the “millennial” and old school gap (in my opinion haha). There is value of ordering things online that can be commonly used or even basic electronics. But if it’s anything above basic, I still believe talking to someone even if on the phone, pays dividends. We recently bought a new vehicle for my wife and explored for weeks online our options, the new vehicles options, what the price...

Re: Ricoh Pro C720

Art Post (Guest) ·
PPBG is planning on launching the Ricoh Pro C720 Series on February 1st. The Pro C720 has the same mainframe as the C900 and it's accessories are identical. This is a great addition to our product line, because it fills the gap between the Ricoh Pro C550/700EX and the Ricoh Pro C900. We really didn't have a product to compete directly against the bizhub PRO 6501 and this provides us with a much better offering. The only differences between the configurations of the Ricoh Pro C720 and the...

Cash Gap: Going back to the past and seems like you've been in the biz for a long time. There was a time when: If you were over 2 years in biz, 90% of the time no PG was required. The leasing companies that you did business with would not "cream" the apps, they would take the good, the bad and the ugly (well, sometimes with the ugly) Problem now, is that all leasing companies want the cream, and that's where I have an issue, if you want first dibs to our portfolio, don't cream the apps, and...

The MP1515, 161, 171 are incredible engines, they just run and run without a hicup, I have a few of these that are running 3-5K every month and one was just traded in that had over 200K on the meter. It's not a money maker for the sales person, however it fills the gap when you are replacing a fleet and need a few lv devices that can print, scan, copy and fax. Think of it this way, if you didn't have these devices in the line-up, your customer may look elsewhere to fill the void and alas...

They do keep on truckin', I'll give you that. With the big push to MPS, however, customers are looking to move to more of a distributed printing model instead of centralizing on a few big MFP's. Additionally, MPS has forced everyone to learn how to service HP devices if they didn't already, & anyone can pick up faster HP A4 desktops from Tech Data, & the CPP will be very comparable. I love having Lexmark to fill this whole that Ricoh has left. For the same price as the Ricoh, I can...

Well written blog, however I as agree with many of the points in the blog. For example: 1. Selling is not dead; it has changed and will continue to change. As the author finally arrives at near the end “old selling” is dead. As buyers change, great sales people have to change with them. Selling is alive and well, it has just changed. 2. Buyer communities did not kill selling. If anything, they can help it. If your company is doing a good job and made a name for itself then the buyer...

Cash Gap: I don't have any scientific clarification of this "so called" declining page volumes", however when I looked at my existing maintenance agreements, I have not seen a drop in page volume, where as one company may drop in volume thus another will increase in volume. I know there are a lot of soothsayers stating print volume is declining, but I'm not seeing it in my neck of the woods. Matter of fact I'm slowing working an account that is producing more than 7 million pages per year in...

Wow. OK, I've never seen a study that didn't CLEARLY show total US print declining every single year since the 1990's. An account can still grow, of course, and you could be fortunate and have a mix of accounts that grow. But just looking at office paper shipments shows a constant decline every year. I think we're right at the stage where 50%+ of workers will never print until they have to "take something to the old man for approval". They'll just never have developed the habit of printing,...

Yes, we have a few 901s, they are doing fine. In my opinion, The 651/751 is a much superior product for the money, which is to say it has many shortcomings, but none that justify the price gap unless you happen to need the few things the 901 does that the 651/751 does not.

Re: Padded Lease Rates

Old Glory ·
Sometimes the gap between the dealer rate and the reps rate is due to a lower rate negotiated by the dealer in return for using ABC Leasing vs XYZ Leasing or it may be tied to a promised annual volume that if unmet, results in a chargeback. Regardless, it's not wrong or immoral. It is what it is, just like cost markup or delivery charge or whatever. Now I admit I'm a bit of a terrorist when it comes to conventional logic, but I have always felt that my Aficio League points were dollars that...

I didn't check the spec's, but from what I have experienced it does not slow down the speed of the copier. But I have had some customers complain that it cannot Z fold to the edge on the last fold. Canon designed it to leave a 6mm gap for some reason and it cannot be adjusted to compensate. Most companies that have interest in using the Z fold to insert ledger documents into letter spec books are used to have a "clean" edge fold. Also, the Z fold is only an option if used in conjunction with...

Identify The Knowledge Gap. That's the space between what people know and what they don't know. Instead of assuming what they know, start determining what they need/want to learn in order to fill in this gap and ensure clear communication. What may seem old or common to you is new to them. Use questions up front to uncover what's needed to fill in the gap. Example: "Just so I don't sound repetitive, how familiar are you with-?" "Web Image Monitor can do this for your organization, this is...

Re: 480W and "Hatch"?

I don't know what the white gap is off the top of my head, but seeing as we don't have this problem with any other custoemrs I'm guessing "User Error". Probably some setting in AutoCAD that controls what two lines should do when they meet, NOT a setting on our 240w (since there is no such type of control in the 240w driver).

Re: Adobe PostScript vs. Emulation

All you have to do is look at the competitive analysis (See Attached) between the Ricoh C4503 and C6502 against the competitors from Canon, Xerox, and KM to see how much of a difference True Adobe PostScript makes in the printing speed. Emulation machines are noticeably slower, to the point that you could argue that a lesser Ricoh needs to be proposed in order to compare accurately.

Re: RICOH MP 401SP vs SP4510SF Equals WTF!

We have published CPP's for both of these models. The SP 4510sf is anywhere from $.03-$.035, & the MP 401spf is $.0155-$.017. Based on that gap, the break-even is about 41,000 images. On a 36 month lease, that's a little more than 1,100 images per month, whereas on a 60 month lease it's not quite 700 images per month. Personally, I like the strategy behind having the two models priced differently. The printer manufacturers (specifically HP & Lexmark) have been doing this for years,...
