So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

Re: Are Step Leases ethical business practise?

JasonR ·
I've heard of similar leases, I think the intention of such leases was to have low payments for a business that has low revenue now, but expects to expand in the next two years and be bringing in additional money to cover the inflated payments. They can, of course be used by disreputable people. As far as the lease itself being unethical, I'd say it's simply a tool and the right or wrong of it depends upon its use.

Re: KM Promo

merlin ·
This is just another marketing sales tool. What there are not showing is the buyout at the lease end. It is always a FMV. KM is using there own leasing arm. If you use a lease factor of .0278 this will show you a 0% interest. We have in state government accounts, what is call a deferred payment lease. This is the state price divided by 36 months. 0 interest, 0 down, 0 buyout at the lease end. But the sell price is fixed.

Re: KM Promo

Again, just a marketing tool. In the commercial world you can show any MSRP price you want, but the good buyers of equipment only look at what they pay. It's no different than buying a car with a trade. Do you look at how much for my trade or how much you are going to pay.

In Nova Scotia, Canada we are no longer allowed to dispose of copiers by taking them to the landfill. We must pay a local moving company $30.00 per hour (or send our tech to their premises) to disassemble the copier into it glass, metal, plastic & electronic components. These components are then placed in different bins for recycling. It can take approx two hours. The tech does not have to be delicate in the disassembly so wire cutters, crowbars and sledge hammers are now part of our...

I think Old Glory means A4. Remember, 4 is less than 3 (it's a metric thing). You should be able to create an "envelope printer" by installing a second instance of the printer with the same IP address. In the PCL 6 driver (not universal), you can go into the printer properties, print preferences, detailed settings and rotate the image 180 degrees. When you say the printer "red lights", what is the error? Is it a paper type mismatch? If so, what is it calling for? How may envelopes are they...

We have used DocRecord internally at our dealership for the last two years. I like it; I find it pretty easy to administer and our end users think it's intuitive and friendly. I can't speak to integration with your specific platform. But, for automation it's just a matter of setting up a process with a watch folder through DocRecord's Automation Server tool, and programming a one-touch button on your MFP that scans into the watch folder. PS - we're a Konica Minolta dealer. :-)

0% Interest financing is a popular financing tool across the board - you see it in the auto industry, furniture, IT (such as your apple example). It has never been a big seller in the Office Equipment industry business due to the business model that the dealers/manufacturers sell with. Many dealers are selling FMV leases (we like the upgrades)and not highlighting to the customer the actual cash purchase price of the equipment. 0% works best when a customer see's a purchase price (let's say...

Another tool for your tool box that I haven't heard touted very often is the supply inventory issue. Our copier contracts include supplies. Therefore the supplies are being paid for in arrears and $0 cost for supply inventory. Any decent sized company is going to have $1,000's of dollars invested in HP supply inventory that is all paid for in advance. Any CEO, CFO type can latch on to that concept without any trouble at all.

Yeah, I goofed! However, I also though of this.
