Re: A4 Page Volumes

M138 ·
I'm looking at a break point of around 10k/month, at that point, at least at my dealership, a3 is a lower tco. They [the samsung rep]say when you look at total volumes, 11x17 only accounts for like 3% of the global print volume. What I've seen is that its not accurate to extrapolate that only 3% of customers need it, it means that there is a wider group of customers that use it outside AEC, but they do a tiny amount of it. Even so, once you've got a feature that is used, even marginally,...

Re: A4 Page Volumes

Art Post (Guest) ·
The most important question to ask is "how much do you copy 11x17"? If the answer is none, then the next question is "how often do you print 11x17"? When the answer is quite often, well A3 is then a no brainer, however if the answer is rarely, then I'll bundle an 11x17 laser or ink printer. Based on under 10K per month, A4 will save the customer on the TCO over the term of a 5 year lease.

OK - this is starting to smell like corporate finger pointing. If Ratio.de is closed, who is operating the US office (financially)? And who is providing plotbase PM? (Still available) There seems to be a cloud of secrecy around this mess. It's as if Ricoh's not satisfied with pricing themselves out of wide format. Now they have to prove what corporate moron clowns they are by playing 3 card monty with a key component. BTW, Graphic Enterprises says they can still order the plotbase controller...

Ratio America which advertises on the P4P forums is selling and support the ratio controller (http://plotbasepm.com/rip_cube) with the rip cube. 3. Re: Top 9 Blunders that B2B Sales Reps Make

Blunder #3: They ignore the competition. What they do: They never bother to discover who else is trying to sell to that prospect. Why they do it: They’re so excited at the opportunity that they don’t want to look too hard at something that might scuttle the deal. What happens: The competitor gets the inside track because they know what you’re pitching and they position their product to make sure that it’s more attractive to the prospect. Your Action Plan: To avoid this blunder, always ask...

doesnt the sharp frontier series have color cpp right now that is close to a3 color? Seems to me like they're innovating faster and getting new features to market first and getting a share of the margins that come with that. I was really happy when c2050/2550 came to market and we had an edge for a moment, but think about it: print from smart card, free sharp desk seat, a4 color, segment 3's with single pass duplex scanning, pull out usb keyboard... Seems Ricoh, Canon and Xerox may be the last of the holdouts. When speaking with a rep at Ricoh they were concerned that A4 devices will lower profit (image that, they do make a profit on a box)expectations especially if A4 takes off. With the presence of Sharp, Samsung and KonicaMInolta they needed to make the move. Keep in mind though that neither KM, nor Sharp has come out with an robust A4 monochrome (don't know what they are waiting for here), remember I stated robust A4, something along...

Re: Competitive Copier Vendors

I think the local dealers biggest advantage against the National vendors is flexibility. Dealers naturally have much shorter chains of command due to having far less employees. Therefore, dealers can make quicker decisions. The National Vendors are always going to have the advantage of price and a lesser concern for profitability. If you cant beat them on price, thow in some change-ups on them. 1.Free Pro Services 2 Free HDD Decommissioning 3.Copy Blocks 4. Throw a "bonus" Office Chair,...

Re: The reason why Ricoh Bought Ikon

There are 3 Canon dealers of size in the Dallas market, & at least one of them is in virtually every deal. One that has a 90 minute response time has been growing like crazy since they came into the market in the mid-2000's. Those 3 dealers probably do $50mm-$65mm per year, & there's also a CBS branch here. Canon does a lot of business in DFW.

At one time I would have said this series was the best built tabletop on the market. Three incarnations later this design is way past its prime. We need a completely new tabletop with speed and a touch screen. Ricoh is blowing it on A4. They took a hard line stance against A4 machines a few years back and now its biting them in the bottom. Ricoh is our main line but we are selling another manufacturers A4 probably 3 to 1 because Ricoh's product has fallen behind.

The MP1515, 161, 171 are incredible engines, they just run and run without a hicup, I have a few of these that are running 3-5K every month and one was just traded in that had over 200K on the meter. It's not a money maker for the sales person, however it fills the gap when you are replacing a fleet and need a few lv devices that can print, scan, copy and fax. Think of it this way, if you didn't have these devices in the line-up, your customer may look elsewhere to fill the void and alas...

Additionally, MPS has forced everyone to learn how to service HP devices if they didn't already, & anyone can pick up faster HP A4 desktops from Tech Data, & the CPP will be very comparable. I love having Lexmark to fill this whole that Ricoh has left. For the same price as the Ricoh, I can...

I wasn't really considering the one-and-done deals. However, in this day and age where we have printers and document management as well, even the smaller companies may have additional revenue opportunities in them. But for the most part, I was referring to accounts that have future opportunity beyond just the replacement of the machine you sold 3 years ago.

Re: Sales Manager Advice

I don't think you could have a selling sales manager who also (actually) manages 6 people. Selling sales mangers are great in areas that need someone in charge but the number of reps do not justify a manager (usually 2-3 reps). If you want someone to hire, train and actually manage people, don't give them a quota for individual sales. If you want someone to answer a few questions and turn in the month end paperwork without really "managing" anything, go with a selling sales manager.

Very good points Art. The only print production (as some would call it) would be 85, 95, 110ppm. But these are more large departmental units. Mostly it is the 85ppm that is being pushed. There are only a few major players when you get higher than that. The very low end has always been a issue for them. The only item would be the AR-208 unit but that little Ricoh desktop will blow that away. Then there is the issue that some of these low end units can only be purchased from a distributor that...

I think Old Glory means A4. Remember, 4 is less than 3 (it's a metric thing). You should be able to create an "envelope printer" by installing a second instance of the printer with the same IP address. In the PCL 6 driver (not universal), you can go into the printer properties, print preferences, detailed settings and rotate the image 180 degrees. When you say the printer "red lights", what is the error? Is it a paper type mismatch? If so, what is it calling for? How may envelopes are they...
