Re: IKON Delivers RICOH Pro C900 Digital Color Printer for Grover Printing, a Consolidate

GMAN ·
Chuck - my post (above) about "17 C900 units placed" was just a joke. If you count the Press Releases from Ricoh every time a C900 is sold, they would actually have about four or five C900 units in the field. I'll try to get facts.

Re: Color MFP Trends, Tactics, etc

I think this is the big change over the last 15-20 years. If you think back, there was a time that you could buy an "off-brand" (not Xerox, Canon or Ricoh) and be really disappointed. They just wouldn't do the job. That's not true anymore, at least for level of machine 90% of office users need. Sure, we may beat the other players on some specific uncommon features, but if they just need a MFP to copy/scan/print, you'd be hard pressed to find one that couldn't accomplish that.

Ok I got the Java and the print director embedded installed fine. The customer wants to be able to track scans and fax also. According to the jobs list I did not do any scanning though I know I did. I found something the referanced an "Enhanced External Counter SDK" but cannot figure out where to download. Ricoh says it is part of the Java card. In the Administrator tab I see an option for this "Enhanced External Counter" but cannot see where to turn it on as it is greyed out. Ricoh has not...

This is an excellent example of why Dealers should be aware of their manufacturer's Environmental initiatives and be able to speak intelligently about 'sustainability.' Ricoh does a great job in this area, as well as XEROX and Konica Minolta. You also see more discussion on 'environmental benefits' in Managed Print Services strategies.

Ouch, that's a tough one. If it's really a proprietary system, there's probably no chance of a converter being available. What's the actual file format? Does it save in an an autocad format? or HPGL? Secondly, why do you need it to be PDF? If it's for printing to a ricoh wide format, could they use a PDF print driver to drop the file into a folder for the Rioch to grab it from?

Re: NEED HELP QUICK --- SINKING SHIP

Here's part of the confusion, this is posted in the wrong forum. This forum is for Industry wide announcements. If you had it in the forum for Ricoh issues, that'd have told us more about what type of issue you were working on. RATIO is the company that makes the controllers/software for the Ricoh wide-format, so not an issue in this case.

Re: RING BINDING

merlin ·
RING binding is not a coil but it is plastic binder. If you look at the GBC option with the different dies you may get some idea. Ricoh's ring punch is only one type and it's installs the rings at the same time. It suppose to not slow up the machine. The binders are proprietary to Ricoh.

I don't believe you can use the Ratio Scantool without PB. Why can't you use the W5100 with the GW Scanner. I think this is all you need. Also, the WFCS is on the GSA Contract dated July 29, 2009. The product code is 100117FNG for $6,500. You need the "software key" that will allow you to utilize the scanner without having a Ricoh WF attached on the network. The product code is 100257FNG, $4,500 MSRP and the launch date should have been the end of October.

Assuming that they're on the same WAN & that it's a Ricoh system, you can set it up to Scan to FTP, but instead of an FTP address, set the destination as the IP address of the printer they want it to print on. This also works great if you have a customer that needs to make color copies but doesn't want a full color MFP. You can color scan to FTP on the MFP and set the destination to a color printer, resulting in a color copy.

Interesting that Ricoh will keep the MP 2550B & MP 3350B in the product line active and only launch the new MFPs in SP and SPF configurations. Do you think that the B-suffix versions will phase out? Anyone know if this will also happen with the MP 4001 and Aficio MP 5001?

Makes sense. Do you know if the $7,600 and $9,250 apply to the base SP models. If so, what are the SRPs for the SPF models? About $1k more? There are almost no generational improvements in these outside of App2ME, standard PPDM, and the optional keyboard so I cant see much higher prices. Plus it looks like RPCS is gone. Is that the end of host-based printing for Ricoh?

Considering Samsung's penchant for allowing other manufacturer's to relabel there product (Xerox & Muratec already relabel their A4) I'm curious as to whether Ricoh's A4 will be made by Samsung or Ricoh, particularly since Ricoh already relabels some Samsung printers. The other relabel option could be Lexmark because of the relationship they have w/ the Ricoh InfoPrint division. I love the new Lexmark A4 products offered to their BSD partners, by the way.

I used to work for a dealership that sold Sharp (when this came out). It is a very nice box, the ultrasonic feeding in awesome, and the pricing for parts and consumables is aggressive. The mistake that Sharp made was to not do a beta program with commercial printers and other high volume users. The irony of Larry's statement is that I would not consider Ricoh a player here. They are chasing Xerox, Canon etc in Seg. 6 and 7, and are seriously held back by their lack of a production color unit.

I confirmed this w/ my Lexmark DSM, but he says that the re-branded models they're providing for Ricoh will not have the same solutions set as the Lexmark systems available through their BSD channel and that they should have a higher CPC. I'm not sure what the launch date is, because it was originally supposed to be first quarter of this year, but maybe my Lanier DSM meant Q1 of their Fiscal Year, which would mean after March.

The imagepress is about $25,000 more retail and offers a lot more professional finishing features than the Ricoh. The Canon also has a better reputation in the production printing market. Usually when people look at gear this fast they really pay attention to reliability and quality of build. There is a lot of metal in the Canon, not as much in the KM and mostly plastic in the Ricoh.

Hey all. I am one of the support reps from Ricoh for PPDM. The product is FABULOUS. The roll out has just started in the field, really, and we are learning the product. The only real problem we have been having is with the server. Those have been IIS issues, not PPDM issues. Also, watch for firewall conflicts. The product allows for BATES stamps, scan to almost anything, and 99% OCR. Once it is up, it appears highly stable. If it crashes, removal can be tricky, but we have a fix for that.
