I do like the control that the dealer has with Print Audit as well as the pre-sale MPS tools if you are one of their Premier dealers. But, turning on various rules in PaperCut is MUCH easier than in Print Audit/PCS Director or other similar products in our industry. Great Article! Of course I am a bit biased... I'm not sure if the reader who commented is familiar with the standard rules available in Print Audit 6/PCS Director. They exist under the Printer Profiles section and can be implemented across the board with a click of the mouse. These basic rules address color usage, duplex print as well as limits on pages of print. By definition the basic rules apply across to board to all printing (subject to that Printer Profile). I haven't installed it primarily because I prefer applications that are more manufacturer agnostic & can be embedded in any compatible manufacturer's product that we sell or that may exist from a previous vendor. The only time I've proposed it was with a prospect that wanted single sign-on via HID card for advanced scanning, copy tracking & secure print release. This can be done with Streamline NX & Globalscan.

Urgent: embedded PaperCut for cost recovery + eCopy for scanning
Help?!? We have a law firm that wanted PaperCut but REALLY liked their eCopy scan stations for their Ricohs Our issue is that when they try use /access scanstation to scan it says the scan-station is in use by another user. We’re are using twain scan version 5 and papercut has been set to allow host based authentication from their end. Based on past experiences with embedded software , once a user logged into embedded it would just open to the copier where they could scan with ecopy easy peasy.

John, Does the user want to track scanning done on the ScanStation? If so, you would need to engage Ricoh and/or your PaperCut provider to create a ticket. But before I would do that, I would try the basics first, firmware up to date on the MFP and Java if it is installed on Java, then the latest version of PaperCut that is supported on the MFP. If they don't want to track ScanStation scanning, try setting the Authentication on the MFP to not require authentication for Scanning. These...
