Ricoh Wide Format is okay but...

Art Post ·
Just noticed today that the Ricoh MP W6700SP is coming up on the three year anniversary of it's launch. The MP 6700SP has proved to be an awesome device and helping with upgrading many of the older W3601's. Lately, I'm seeing a shift in needs for wide format. More and more users are asking for color wide format and they really don't want ink based devices (except for the HP Pagewides). The CW2201SP is great but has some limitations. Would really like to see Ricoh partner with memjet and...

Re: The Death of the Cost Per Page Billing Model

Hi Art, Here’s my prediction for the future: A3 MFP’s will be bought on the internet without any interference from sales-reps, print-specialists, installation-technicians, etc. etc. I think the Copier Industry isn’t any different from Audio/Video, Household-appliances, Insurances, Phones, Vacations, Cars, and all other business of which we thought we would always need a technical- or sales specialist? They will be delivered (and installed!) by DHL, FEDEX, UPS, and if broken, fixed by...

Don't forget that Epson just released their new A3 inkjet MFP. Very interested to see how that pans out as well! I can't tell you how many times I've lost a deal because a dealer "disguises" their a base amount of copies inside the lease payment. Customers are willing to pay more to not have to worry about monthly print usage and have a predictable monthly payment. This seems crazy at first, but then I thought about it and it's everywhere... We pay a flat rate cell phone bill instead of "per...

Re: The Death of the Cost Per Page Billing Model

Hi Art The Pagewide service model is the one we use for our Canon ImagePROGRAF plotters. Based upon customer's needs, we quote an annual contract for service. This contract, like the original 1- year warranty from Canon, excludes user- replaceable items (ink, paper, printhead(s), and maintanence cartridge). If the system includes a scanner, we account for that in the quoted price. So essentially, we will repair / replace any item not user-replaceable. Canon offers the same "service" contract...

Thanx for this. Thus the maintenance agreement for the ImagePrograf and provides a flat fee with unlimited prints, right? The user would then also pay for any consumables, do I have this right?

Re: HP PageWide A3 machines

Art Post ·
I was there, I saw the A3 PageWide devices, HP would not give numbers on ink cost, although they did give of the yield of the cartridges. Pricing for cost per page seems like it will follow the traditional BTA pricing model. Which means no device billing for maintenance nor unlimited clicks like the HP PageWide XL 8000's (wide format). Dealers will price the cost per page model. Warranty on the print head is 3 years. HP is touting there value points with this device: Acceptable office color...

Just another reason why Samsung dealers need to part ways with HP. Not BTA friendly.

I'll kick it off: Best quality print will be on IJ (inkjet) paper, thus there will be a substantial increase in paper cost. Almost ten dollars per 500 sheets = 2 cents per sheet of paper!

ok, I got more. Is anyone else going to chime? What I'm doing is researching the heck out of the HP PageWide XL printers. It makes sense because the same print technology will be used in the new A3 color MFP's. Thus, I'm taking some of the data that I find interesting and posting it up for us. 1) Light radiation hazard Light radiation is emitted from the beacon, ink level indicators, paper drawer indicators, and formatter status indicators. The emitted light is in compliance with the...

Here's another that I picked off from the HP PageWide 5000XL brochure: Printhead warranty 10 liters or 12 months from installation This brings up another question, is the printhead included in any maintenance agreements?

I agree: Print quality will be poor compared to laser on normal paper CPP will higher, maintenance is expensive on PW devices And also the ink is not good for you (the enviroment) This is true for many other HP ink jet printers I am convinced that we will see similar devices from other manufactures, I know Ricoh has done a lot of research in ink technology lately

If any of you have access to the Riso ComColor my guess is the output will be similar. Great for churches or schools but not up to par for what businesses want from their color devices.

Let's talk more about the paper. The HP will take a 650 foot roll. What that means is the roll of paper will be 50lbs or more. * Risk of someone hurting their back when loaded the paper. This is introduces additional risk to the business owner if someone hurts their back when changing rolls of paper. The last thing a business owner needs is a workman's comp claim. * Are the prints going to be used on a job site? If so, rain and or moisture can make the ink smear and bleed. What good are the...

I saw the 8000 in action at a commercial "blueprint" shop and it was very impressive. The quality on 20 lb bond was great, and very fast. The guys running the machine said operational costs were significantly less than the KIPs they replaced it with. And very reliable...I believe they ran 1.5 million sq ft without a problem. They replaced the cutter on their own, pretty easily. I'm exclusively a Ricoh WF dealer, but these things scare me due to the loss of service/parts revenue I would incur...

Whats the price point on the 8,000's. I am going to try to flip him back to toner if the price is right. I only have access to the Ricoh Wide Format so I am not sure how the price will stack up due to the 8,000 doing 30 d's a minute.

It should be obvious to all that the toner based print industry is very mature. Another A3 "whiz-bang feature rich" toner based copier is not going to set the world on fire. LED printers with page wide print heads using toner have some good talking points but to me did not set the print world on fire. Some manufacturers even stepped back from LED to laser. I predict in the next 24 months, inkjet based "Page-Wide" A3 MFP printers will start to disrupt the industry based upon the big industry...

Re: Six Chat Questions with Rich Gigl with National Azon

Art, great piece here. We use National Azon for some hardware but a lot for their specialty wide format stocks. We get one in particular that is an adhesive matte type product that the customer is able to print high quality images on and use for door entryways, deli cases and windows. It allows them to print and when the time comes to clean and/or remove, it can be done without the assistance of a straight razor. We also consult with them from time to time for special projects out production...
