Re: Will outside Sales Rep's go away?

fisher ·
In a way its already gone to the internet and away from the outside sales rep........at least for stand alone printers and A4 devices. If all someone needs is a printer or an A4 to be used for basic printing, scanning and copying.....face it, they really don't need us already. If you've been at this a long time you probably remember the days when you sold a lot of A4 machines to small offices. 20 years ago if you needed an A4 you called a copier dealer. Those days are gone for the most part.

After searching the internet again I then resorted to calling a contact in the Netherlands and South Africa. These out put trays are available through Ricoh Europe, thus if you need one please PM or email me and I can get you the contact person. Art

I heard it through the grapevine a while back that RBS (at least in DFW) is no longer sending field reps out unless opportunities are above a certain value, meaning they are handling the sales process via telephone and email from start to finish. I see this as being the way things will be done in the future. From a business perspective, it makes sense if it allows dealers/direct to employ fewer sales people while generating close to the same revenue. If there is no value in a transaction...

We had never charged for it after the sale until about 6 months ago due to people calling all the time for driver installs, scanning issues related to their internet etc. We used to offer an optional network/it yearly agreement and people would decline and then start calling for help. We decided to send out, initially an opt-out to ever customer who had current devices, and after every sale send one out. We did it as an opt out due to the fact that customers would decline the option and...

This article seems to be written by an old brick & mortar company that successfully transitioned to internet sales. This will work for any company that drop ships their products. So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

What happens: They end up wasting valuable one-on-one time with a busy customer who has other things to do that provide a free education. Re: MFP Losing IP address

Art....looks like you found the culprit. My guess the modem was fine but the router would be what I would check. Usually once the IP on the MFP is set this will not change and should not zero out. What may be happening is you might be using a switch instead of a router...then your internet provider is using more intelligent DHCP servers that reset the IP address every 4 to 6 hours. Installing router will create an internal network with 192.168.xxx.xxx behind the firewall. I just did this...

A real interesting concept from Lexmark https://smartsolutions.lexmark.com/ssds/ You can basically upload dozens of free premade Templates with nice graphics into your MFP to simplify various tasks. Lexmark has opened up their SDK to any software developer to create new Templates and possibly charge a fee for download. This seems like a real reason why you might want your MFP connected to browse the internet.

And here's the rebuttal for my statement: http://www.govtech.com/securit...tch-Good-Idea-020711 However, I think the idea of an internet kill switch is rather silly as well. In order for the kill switch to be used, the country would have to already be in total rebellion. No politician is going to throw a switch that costs the U.S. GDP billions a day except in the face of armed uprising.

I quess that's why the system now comes with PSIII, tho enable the mail2print feature. I have questions also! Why would I need hot spot when I can have mail2print? Are there any other limitation with mail2print other than if you send multiple attachments only the first attachement would be printed and the fact that mail2print does not support hi compression pdf. I know there's the cost of the PSIII when working with the other mfp's to enable mail2print. But what's the cost to use the Hot Spot?

The demo and product were great. I have some questions about latency with on-premise SharePoint and Exchange. I would think UDOCX would access to both from the Internet which means users would have to configure their sites for external access. Obviously with a complete cloud solution using Office 365/BPOS this is not an issue. I just attended a Microsoft event for Office 365 and it is quite an improvement over BPOS.

Check the firewall settings on the 2008 Server. Sometimes an update will reset them. If the 2008 Server sits on their LAN with a hardware firewall between it and the internet, then you could turn OFF the firewall as a test and see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn't then its not the firewall, and if it does you could open up the SMB ports and test scanning to folder again.

If that site has weak security and unencrypted passwords you're screwed. I'm still receiving emails as normal, btw.

If your client wants to continue using Netscape, I'd recommend them upgrading to Netscape 4.61 or 4.7 as these versions are officially tested by RSV. The newest versions of Netscape (6 & 7) won't work properly as Netscape has changed the way they handle Javascript so try to stay away from these. The safest route is to use Internet Explorer 5.5 if your client isn't opposed to Microsoft web browsers.
