Re: Desktop Shortcut to Scanned Images via store to HDD in scanner

fisher ·
Its pretty strait forward. Default the scanner to Store File to HDD. At the PC create a desktop shortcut to Web Image Monitor. Have customer click on Print Job/Store File -------> Document server. They will be able to download the document. The real problem though is you are encountering a lazy IT guy. Any IT guy worth his salt will help you set up scan to folder.

Ever since I saw the name Nozomi I was curious where it came from. I found this on wikipedia Nozomi ( Japanese : のぞみ , lit. "Wish" or "Hope," and known before launch as Planet-B ) was a Mars orbiter that failed to reach Mars due to electrical failures. The mission was terminated on December 31, 2003. @fisher I agree almost completely, but to play devils advocate I will say that we are selling more desktop printers now than we ever have before. Mostly brother, as we became a partner a couple years ago. I think people are looking for reps to show them a better way than just buying another HP off amazon, but the rep still has to have a higher level conversation with the client...not just hey buy your printers from us.

Art, we've got a rep that covers York / Gettysburg and he confirmed this. He said he heard it went down ~ 6 months ago and they started reaching out to clients towards the end of 2019 to let them know. Gonna be a big change as Quality had a lot of loyal clients (also were giving away service at rates like .003 & .032- > I've gotta imagine that'll change quickly)

Across the board, I probably average 12-15% margin above whatever markup management puts in before my "Sales Cost" is published. For printers & desktop A4 devices, I just want to get a bunch of them in the field running pages & making money, so I sell most of them at my Sales Cost. That recurring revenue stream & volume in numbers is more valuable than making a few extra dollars on the hardware. On larger A4 MFPs, I'll typically have a 20-25% margin, because I typically propose...

3D printers commoditized way too quickly. They are turning into desktop printers where there is only money in the supplies. It's a shame because they took a specialized product and tried to find a way to place it in every household by dropping the price tag.

So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

The solutions range in price from $99 to $599, depending on the solution, but the dealer has some control over the price. There are really only 9 core models (3 printers, 5 desktop MFP, 2 console MFP); the remaining 7 models are simply different standard configurations that are available. All products share the same user interface at the MFP and range in speed from 40ppm to 55ppm.

I think that if you look at the non-hardware solutions that Ricoh now offers there are many, many that don't involve the printed page. Indeed many of the solutions involve Capture and Storage of printed pages; management of those documents after they're stored and the processing of data streams, be they from computer (laptop, desktop and larger systems), into forms or variable data printing. The printed page is NOT dead but businesses are discovering that they are difficult to manage once...

I don't find this story surprising at all. Lexmark is a printer company that lacks a complete competitive product line. Ricoh has a complete product line to fit a major university from production machines down to desktop printers. You can bet this was a very profitable deal for Ricoh. I don't even think low bidder would be an issue regarding Lexmark given how weak they are on any product beyond a desktop printer. My experience has been that setting up the server application so its available in the display of the MFP is a disaster. Also once its set up on the MFP its a very slow process to make selections and enter data on the mfp touchscreen. Very clunky at the mfp. I've given up on it and now just load the workstation software when the customer has a need. Its better to just set it up on a workstation and point the software to the customer's regular scan folder inbox. The desktop software is great.

Very good points Art. The only print production (as some would call it) would be 85, 95, 110ppm. But these are more large departmental units. Mostly it is the 85ppm that is being pushed. There are only a few major players when you get higher than that. The very low end has always been a issue for them. The only item would be the AR-208 unit but that little Ricoh desktop will blow that away. Then there is the issue that some of these low end units can only be purchased from a distributor that...

My rule is, if they need more training, or something wrong or inconvenient with the way I set up the print scan, I'll make it right, no charge. If they add a workstation and want it configured,if they changed their router/switch, decide (after 60 days or so) they need a different configuration, or some O/S related problem, that is chargeable. A case in point, a customer called me saying his can scan to folder icon has disappeared from his desktop. I suggested that the cleanup wizard has...

I'm seeing these at around $.015 mono and $.09 color which is a little higher than the C300/C400. But, it has a much smaller footprint that allows it to sit on a counter versus requiring a cabinet which is a major benefit. If you compare the hardware cost and CPP to competitive systems, it plays very well as a desktop unit.
