Re: Can a Digital Copier Scan to Dropbox?

GrantW ·
Great Post Art. Xerox have a DropBox app available for their new ConnectKey devices but the user has to buy a scanpack which cover X number of scans and has a 12 month shelf-life. The advantages of having it on the MFD as an App is that any user (e.g. at a college) can log in to their DropBox account and print or scan to / from their own account securely. We've been doing the same as you and circumventing the charge or need for an app by pointing the scan to a DropBox folder on a desktop.

Re: MP C6004SP & Fax Routing to Folder

Old Glory ·
The short answer is yes. It would have to be initiated by someone at the point of failure. I would teach someone there how to change things in the event that the server goes down with the intent of switching things back once the server is back on line. The incoming fax can either go to the Fax Document Server or there is such a thing as "Locked Fax". Like Locked Print, it stores the incoming fax in the copier harddrive until an authorized code is entered to release them. Don't ask me how to...

Re: Here's an interesting question I received about Ricoh scanning

Bumble001 ·
No sure if I understand the question. Are you scanning to a server at a remote location of the same company i.e. satellite office? You would be able to do it if they have a VPN setup between the two sites. If they do not have a VPN I believe you are out of luck.

Re: Here's an interesting question I received about Ricoh scanning

Bumble001 ·
No you can not scan SMB directly to a folder on a server at two different LAN's. The only way you could scan to a folder on a server is to setup a FTP server on the server and open the Firewall to allow the FTP server to function.

Bill Knight ·
For Windows 8 and Server 2012 you can upgrade the firmware to fix this problem. Another option is to install Dropbox at both locations and have them sync to that folder. This way you scan to the local folder by SMB and with Dropbox it will automatically sync to the other location.

Art, What kind of hot folder? I assume you are talking about setting up a hot folder on a desktop that you can scan to or drag and drop files into. With fiery, it's pretty simple to create and set any parameter that can be used within the print driver.

Re: can a hot folder auto rotate an image?

Art Post ·
Apologies, I'm somewhat naïve when it comes to this. The user will scan a document that is 36x60, we want that document to be rotated at a 90 degree angle for viewing so the user does not have to rotate the image. I thought there may be software that could watch a folder, and then automate that process.

MP C6004SP & Fax Routing to Folder

Art Post ·
Had an interesting question posed to me and I don't know if there is a way to make a change with the MFP settings for Fax. On occasions the customers server will go down, during the time that the server is down, incoming faxes will not route to the fax folder, they will then print. The client can't have these faxes out in the open? Is there a setting with the MFP that we could make a change that the faxes would not print but be kept on the hard drive until released?

Why Don't You Have a Copier Technology Budget?

I was in the field today and was helping one of my clients figure out an issue with his desktop MFP. This client is also on the board of a non-profit organization that has a seven year old color A3 MFP. Yes Ray, they need 11x17! Why do some clients have seven year old MFPs? It's because they made a purchase and can't come to grips with spending additional dollars to get a new MFP. Thus, I told the story of WHY ninety percent of my clients lease their MFPs. In fact a little more than eighty...

The 2551 is pretty old. If you can't get around it with firmware you can get around it in a pinch by using the FTP protocol instead of SMB.

Re: Canon 5560i scanning question

Canon has a solution called Authorized Send that allows Scan to OneDrive which I believe is what you mean by MS 365. You can browse sub-folders and create new ones from the MFP with this. MSRP is $1100 per device. They also have uniFLOW One (Online) and uniFLOW). This is basically Canon's PaperCut Solution so it offers a lot more than just advanced scanning/scan to cloud (i.e. cost tracking, authentication, mobile print tracking, follow-me print, etc.). uniFLOW One is the Microsoft Azure...

It's my belief that the Golden Age of copier started in 1980 and ran till 2010. My reasoning starts with the mass production of plain paper copiers in the early eighties, then the introduction of the digital copiers in the nineties and lastly the coming of age for digital color copiers.
