Good suggestion but expensive for a 20 copier install. ShareScan is a hardware add on level of technology to support and maintain that I was hoping to avoid. I was looking at eCopy Paperworks but this law firm has approx. 500 PCs. At around $180.00 per workstation this gets very expensive. Plus I am unsure if the law firm would move away from Adobe PDF. Are we on the same wave length here?? Usually a 3-5 means that service and supplies are provided for three years, after three years the customer then has to pay for service, thus raising the cost to them. ie: $100 per month for 60 months includes 3 years of supplies and service for 100K, after the third year or whenever the supplies and service expire, the rep will come back in and refi the remaining 24 months with a new 3-5, they can usually sell this at a lower price that what the customer...

I can agree that they leasing companies (and all lenders) acted foolishly in the past. Now the banks are acting like banks. That's not bad, though it may make it tougher to provide people with equipment you, I and they all know they have no business leasing. [If you were over 2 years in biz, 90% of the time no PG was required.] And now we know that two years in business is not adequate assurance of the company's ability to make the payments, so more assurance is required in the form of a PG.

In Nova Scotia, Canada we are no longer allowed to dispose of copiers by taking them to the landfill. We must pay a local moving company $30.00 per hour (or send our tech to their premises) to disassemble the copier into it glass, metal, plastic & electronic components. These components are then placed in different bins for recycling. It can take approx two hours. One of my clients is a car dealership, and they recently replaced (2) Ricoh MP2510's & (2) Ricoh MP3010's with (4) Lexmark XS658dfe's. The average monthly volume on each of these is around 7,500, so considering that the Lexmarks are significantly more productive and haven't had any service calls in the first quarter, reliability doesn't appear to be an issue. The most important question to ask is "how much do you copy 11x17"? If the answer is none, then the next question is "how often do you print 11x17"? When the answer is quite often, well A3 is then a no brainer, however if the answer is rarely, then I'll bundle an 11x17 laser or ink printer. Based on under 10K per month, A4 will save the customer on the TCO over the term of a 5 year lease.

Art...."SC" means Scan Centric....these offer 1st in industry to scan 2 sided hard ID cards/checks via document feeder. They also have Scan squared technology. Card Shot from the doc feed...upto 1/2" stack of cards. Card shot in scanning mode not just copy mode. Color dropout...removes all color from scanned documents...all the remains is black data. The toner capacity has doubled in size at 20,000 now therefore the cost per copy can be very low. They also completely rebuilt the fuser system...

Does most of the business world really have *no* minimum amount of copies included? Obviously, including 30% more than you are going to run is a bad idea, but if a minimum is set at a reasonable level, it's easier to budget your expenses. Also, reconciling those overages on a quarterly or semi-annual basis would help even out the peaks and valleys.

Duty cycle is a calculation where you take 22 business days per month x 8 hours x 60 mins x XXppm. Then subtract out service calls and PM's, then you have your duty cycle. There may be a little more complexity than this, but that is basically how you get the Duty Cycle. You can usually divide this number by 10-20 to get the recommended monthly volume.

There are 3 Canon dealers of size in the Dallas market, & at least one of them is in virtually every deal. One that has a 90 minute response time has been growing like crazy since they came into the market in the mid-2000's. Those 3 dealers probably do $50mm-$65mm per year, & there's also a CBS branch here. Canon does a lot of business in DFW.

I have a 161 in a medical facility that has had high months of over 32,000 pages and averages over 25,000 pages per month. Its an extreme situation but the machine just runs. Never seen anything like it in a tabletop. JUST CHECKED THEIR LATEST INVOICE AND THEY ARE AT A METER READING OF 467,736 .

Thanks for the info. But I must say 3750 per month or 15,000 over 4 months and nothing for a 25ppm system. I would not say they take a beating with those numbers...now if you said 15,000 in ONE month then that would be something.

I would not sell the 5100 or 7140 without a Tameran stacker or finisher of some sort attached too it. Last year I sold a 7140 (the 14 D per minute) to a busy contracting office. First one I ever did. Delivered the machine with Ricoh's standard output attachments. I found out real quick that in the real world the Ricoh output attachments are useless. The combination of the machine being so fast and multiple users sending various size prints to the machine before previous jobs were removed...

It really depends on the user requirements and volume. If they need more robust paper-handling capabilities or advanced finishing and are above 5,000 per month in total volume, I step them up to the 30ppm model. If they run a lower volume with a basic configuration, I let them know that the lower-end model will meet their needs & handle their volume.

General rule that I always base it on is 10% of combined annual hardware and serv/sup revenue. Somebody selling $25,000 in hardware a month and then having a service base of $25,000 per month should be generating a gross income of about $5,000 per month.

I understand where you're coming from, I believe, you may be talking about the ability to actually delete up to 4 areas per document through the display. What I am speaking about regarding flexibility is to have 1 button on the home screen that does multiple steps like 3 hole punch, saddle stitch and pull covers with a custom watermark, with a picure of the user that requires these functions, or email destinations with the name of the recipieint and their custom file type as a 1 touch...

Without limits? If you sold a 171 and the customer had 50 workstations, you would install the print driver (and then the fax driver) on every one of them? My suggestion is to incorporate a reasonable limit to the installs. The customer needs to learn how to install the driver anyway since I doubt you would come back out in six months to install a driver on their new PC. Five workstations per device seems to work well. That's enough to make sure everything is working and train the customer...

Assuming we've used the 2 hours per machine connectivity time that we include for each install and that this isn't resolving issues that we created, this would be billable at an hourly rate in the neighborhood of $100 per hour. Depending on availability, the work would be done by either an SE, break/fix tech or a member of our Network Services team. Dealer network install for scan, print, fax upto four workstations included in the sale, sales person is charged back in the deal for it. After the sale, customer can buy block time for network services or be charged $150 per hour. Pretty much is a user goes to win7 and needs new drivers it's 100% billable or they can buy block time.

Assuming that this is a municipal account in the state of New Jersey.....this would be the Kyocera 48-month cost per copy program on state contract. You pretty much can't beat it on price unless you also have the state contract cost per page program. Your only hope is to sell yourself and the value of your company and also to get them to get a demonstration of the equipment before signing the contract. The Kyo equipment is not as nice as the Ricoh gear or as user friendly in my humble...

I think Old Glory means A4. Remember, 4 is less than 3 (it's a metric thing). You should be able to create an "envelope printer" by installing a second instance of the printer with the same IP address. In the PCL 6 driver (not universal), you can go into the printer properties, print preferences, detailed settings and rotate the image 180 degrees. When you say the printer "red lights", what is the error? Is it a paper type mismatch? If so, what is it calling for? How may envelopes are they...

Old Glory: I finally sold one last week!! About the begging and pleading for an A4. What I really wanted was an A4 black device and a system that had the same cpp model as our A3's. I see the current MPC 300/400 very hard to sell especially and they don't justify a cos per copy well when you are replacing an A3 device.

Old Budget is $101,500. New "total cost" for "lease-purchase of copiers and service" is $92,000. Cost per page is $0.04. Volume is 7 million per year. 7 million x $0.04 = $280,000 per year just for the clicks. I'm going to guess this is simply a case of bad reporting and not a case of the school board being unable to add.
