Recent Marco Aquisition in New Jersey

Art Post ·
In December 2019 Marco purchased Image Systems for business in Somerset, NJ. Many of us were surprised since the annual revenue was about 5 million (manta). Kind of small for a Marco purchase. In NJ there are Mega Dealers, and then the rest is well in the Image Systems size. Word on the street is that they will look to acquire 3-5 dealers in that 5 million range and then consolidate for one location. Again something I heard not gospel but it does make sense for the NJ market place

Selling Copiers in the Eighties with Marian Janes

Marian and I have never met, however it seems we were both selling copiers in New Jersey in the Eighties. We connected on Linkedin about a week ago after I read one of her replies to RJ's comments for "Selling Copiers in the Seventies". While I was hustling copiers in Central Jersey, Marian was doing the same in North Jersey. Selling Copiers in the Eighties with Marian Janes How did you find your way into the copier industry? A Few Copier Vignettes from the Late Eighties & Nineties

Art Post ·
The picture in the header showed our demo room back in either 1989 or 1990, might have even been 1991. As you can see by the photo Atlantic Office Systems (the first one in NJ) was Authorized for Adler Royal, Brother, and Tele VaxaFax (facsimile). Sometime later Adler Royal was purchased by Mita and the Adler Royal brand was changed to Copystar. I thoroughly hated the name Copystar because there was no brand recognition, at least with Adler Royal, our clients knew about Royal typewriters. We...

Re: Ricoh MP C3503SP.pdf

I think I smell something fishy here, could be herring or bluefish! I looked up the contract number for the State of NJ and the contract refers to a cost per copy program. Unless it changed, you commit to x amount of prints for color & black every month and you then pay that price plus the overages. The word "Lease" is in the quote, plus there is price for the lease and then the price for the maintenance & service. So, I would have to say that this is not a cost per copy and then how...

Art, You and I are from similar professional backgrounds and times. We started in 1980 selling Sharp and Juki typewriters. Everything sold near MSRP. Then the fax boom came and we caught that wave perfectly. We sold Ricoh thermal faxes for full list ($2995.00). The only issue was cash flow; we sold them faster than we could order and purchase them. Copier Maintenance agreements went from .022 up to .035 and did not include drums, developer, toner, fuser rollers or lamps! Also, like your...

I Wouldn’t Buy a Fuji Xerox

Guest ·
July 2, 2018 FujiFilm is suing Xerox for a Billion dollars because Xerox backed out of the merger after one of the Xerox Board of Directors staged a rebellion. “ Fujifilm (also)…threatened to compete against Xerox Corp …if it failed to renew its technology agreement in 2021.” If you are unaware of the relationship between Fuji and Xerox, Fuji makes a large portion of Xerox’s line of Office equipment. Your Xerox Rep probably just calls them “Xerox” because he doesn’t want you concerned about...

Selling Copiers in the Seventies with Jack Carrol

Art Post ·
Before we start, I thought it would be good to give everyone a little back ground about my relationship with Jack Carrol. Jack was one of the principal dealer owners at Century Office Products. Jack hired me in the summer of 1998 for a sales position in NJ. One year prior, I had sold my stake in my dealership to my two partners. In essence, Jack was my first sales manager. Over the years I learned so much more about selling, building relationships and was hitting six figure compensation...

I have a municipal RFP for 50+ copiers that I have to a make a group presentation to this month. I expect one of the final three making a presentation is Xerox, who is not the incumbent vendor. How would you go about dropping this breaking news on the audience? I have never had a prospective customer tell me anything other than thank you for sharing the information. What I have had is people throw that companies stuff in the trash in front of me, or hand it to me and say thanks you made the decision easy. Usually if they are throwing it away I just tell them I will take it and dispose of it for them after I get the information I need off it.

LinkedIn is becoming the new Facebook. Useless posts by people and political crap all over it. When you do anything business related you are inundated with requests to connect followed 20 seconds later with some sales script about setting up a meeting. I still use it all the time but get annoyed by it daily.
