57 Days of Selling "Day 42"

Art Post ·
After a weekend of rest and relaxing, well, If you define decorating the outside for the house for Christmas, then I truly had a relaxing weekend! By Sunday, I was feeling somewhat better, so the wife gave me a kick in the ass and stated, "you need to decorate the outside, honey". WHAT? You know the saying, "Happy Wife, Happy Life". Ten AM to Three PM, geesh I wish we lived in a condo in Florida. By four PM we were leaving for the wife's Birthday dinner. It was a busy day and night, and the...

57 Days of Selling "Day 43"

Art Post ·
Fourteen days left, and yes, I'm starting to feel a little bit of pressure now. I have only one large opportunity that I have a chance of closing for December. That opp is for $48-$50K, if I can nail that down, the rest of the year should be a breeze. If I can't get that opp to close, I'll then have to figure out a plan to piece meal the rest together. If the piece meal bit comes to fruition, I'm thinking I may have to write 12-15 orders for the month. Egads! That will not be an easy task.

57 Days of Selling "Day 49"

Art Post ·
I figure by the end of this week, I'll down to counting the hours left until the end of the sales year rather than the days. I need quite a lot of meetings and appointments to go just right, and I'm coming around the notion that I may not be able to get to where I want to be. I've never been a quitter and at this point, I'm not going to lay down and give up. There was not much going on today, it was my plan to be in the office all day to see if I can gather some additional appointments for...

57 Days of Selling "Day 50"

Art Post ·
Whoa, finally hit day fifty! It's been a roller coaster of a ride so far, with many ups and many downs. I arrived at the office late today, the reason? Well, I was exhausted and I guess my body needed the sleep. After waking up, I spent the next thirty minutes reviewing some late emails from yesterday and sending a few emails before I needed to prepare to leave for the office. I spent the better part of the day developing the final proposal & order docs for an appointment with a net new...

Count em, six fracking days left in the year! As with most of my months and quarters it seems that hitting or not hitting my numbers is going to come down to the wire. Why is that? I'm thinking I can answer that. My answer for coming down to the wire, is because I was not able to develop enough opportunities to meet my opp goal of $600K. To date, I believe I'm somewhere around $350K in opportunities. Having the $600K in opps around the first week of December would have given me a cake walk...

57 Days of Selling "Day 53" The Remaining 40 Hours

Art Post ·
This is it, the week before Christmas! As of this morning I still had twenty-five percent of the month left. After letting the "ball come to me" on Friday. Today was similar to most the other fifty three days, with one exception. We'll get to that exception later. Linkedin Over the weekend I had a LinkedIn chat exchange with Bobbie Foedisch, the crux of the thread centered on LinkedIn removing some of the basic features that were free with LinkedIn. I'm a ten year veteran of LinkedIn...

How Can You Be the Best at MPS, MFP, & Managed IT?

Art Post ·
What does it take to be among the elite sales people at your branch or your dealership? For starters you've got to have a passion for being ICHIBAN. Nothing floats my boat more than being at the top of the totem poll each and every month. I like to win, don't like to lose and will do the extra work to make sure my numbers are the best they can be month in and month out. More times than not you will eat the bear rather than the bear eating you. Too often I see reps that will slack off once...

57 Days of Selling "Day 25"

Art Post ·
I woke up today with this AM with serious trepidation that my candidate for President of the United States of America might not win. It's now 10:25PM and we're still in the thick of it. Hard to believe all of this started a mere eighteen months ago. After watching four hours of election results I'm really having a hard time remembering what I did today. There are days when you have a plan, you start to execute that plan and then everything goes south. Today was one of those days. Since it is...

It was a late night last night, I finally got to sleep around 2AM or maybe 2:30AM. The election had me riveted to the TV for hours and hours of counting votes, percentages and listening to commentary. Rather than give you my journal for the day, I thought I would share an email that I just sent to a net new account that I had an appointment with today. The end of the appointment was somewhat humorous. The client had back to back appointments, my was first and then the competition followed.

Another miserable morning here in NJ. That typical forty five minute drive took me more than ninety minutes!!! Once I arrived at the office, I had to gather up a few documents and head off to my first and only appointment of the day. The appointment was scheduled because I needed an additional document signed from one of the orders I received the other day. However, I had another plan in mind for this appointment. Not only was I going to get that document signed, but I was going to develop...

One early appointment in the AM today, or some might call it a scheduled stop in. The account had just purchased an A3 color device from me about a month ago. At that time they had expressed that they needed two more for additional offices. Over the last two weeks I had placed a call and then a follow up email, but did not have a call back. Since the new A3 device was ready for delivery I thought I would pay them a visit to make sure I'm there to help with training. The DM was not there,...

The Quest for $200K "Let The Ball Travel"

Art Post ·
As of right now I don't have a title for this blog, at least not yet. I didn't post a blog for Friday night of last week because I needed the time to wind down when I arrived home. Friday night was spent uploading and redacting a crap load of copier proposals that were sent to me over the last few days. Thanks to everyone that sent those in! It seems that each week gives me an opportunity to work from home one day. Friday was one of those days. My time Friday was spent prepping for Monday...

Let me tell you, the highs, the lows, the ups and the downs can downright kill you in this business. Today was a planned day for the office to prospect and move stuff forward. Today, was also the day that I was to get my old twenty pound notebook replaced with one of those lightweight varieties. Needless to say I was looking forward to getting to office. On the way to the office I made three stops at net new businesses that were on the way. All three stops did not have any thing to offer for...

Having a 10AM appointment allowed me to work from this morning. Typical home work day includes coffee and a trip upstairs to the office. First things first is to check out any overnight threads on the Print4Pay Hotel forums. My next move is to check on my gmail for google alerts that I've set and then my work email. Once all of that is completed, I'll go to Linkedin and view my wall for threads, always on the lookout to strike up a conversation, like a thread, comment, share or post a thread...

One of my to do items was the appointment I had in Shrewsbury for the two production systems. This was the same client that I had scheduled earlier in the week but had to reschedule. I concur 100% with your call findings! The extension thing is laughable—that is such poor service for new folks trying to do business with them. I get that situation more often than not. How do these people get new business when no one can reach them. I also run into the same thing when trying to reach new businesses with buildings under construction. Their blooming unreachable! December is such a toss up. I have had fantastic decembers and horrible decembers. Fantastic are the ones that call me New Year's Eve about 5:00 and say I'll sign the order of you come and get it today so I can take advantage of the tax benefits. I've had a customer call me to discuss a deal at 10:00pm on New Year's Eve to finalize and send him the paperwork. It's amazing what happens when you make that "last" call for the day/holiday. I share this story with my sales reps quite often: i remember about 7 years ago on a Friday around 3:00 I was working a more rural area of my territory and saw a sign for a church. I rode by the sign and said to myself I would go back later. Something told me to go back and I did. I went back to the church that is a small backwoods rural church with probably 30-50 members max. Stopped in and spoke to the pastor and...

Just a little heads up on a recent chat I had with my son a few days ago. My son went to Staples and Best Buy the other day to get a new printer. Since his wife is working from home as a para-legal she still needs to print. They had an older inkjet but even I couldn't get the heads unclogged. I recommended that he get a small black laser print. After visiting both Staples and Bet Buy neither of them had any laser printers under $500 in stock! Yes, standalone printers sales are up. That tells...

It's just a little after 5PM and the snow is coming down pretty good now. At the coast we're expected to receive 6-10 inches but being so close to the ocean there is always the chance for freezing rain or sleet to knock the totals down. Our roads are passable and just wet from all of the salt and brine that's been laid down in the last 24 hours. I had not intention of writing a blog tonight, but something kept nagging at me to get back to my office and write. As I write this I'm still trying to figure out why I'm writing this blog tonight. Was it because I had two appointments in the field today, or maybe it was because both appointments will lead to orders this week? On second thought maybe it was because at one of my appointments I had them print me some print samples for another account that could lead to an additional order?
