Re: Microsoft surface tablets

Old Glory ·
I'm pretty sure it is just like a PC? If it's on the network and has the driver, it prints. They even have pcl drivers preloaded like a PC. My company is contemplating the issue of a Surface Tablet to each sales rep to facilitate order processing and CRM upkeep.

thanx for this. The administrator told me that they bought something like 300 of them in the last month and more than 10% have been dropped or slid off the desk by accident, thus cracking the screen. He stated that MS offers a repair kit for $79 to fix the broken glass. Just an FYI

Re: Page Number with new 03 devices

I looked everywhere and I couldn't find it. I have started using the PCL6 exclusively because it seems to be the only driver that doesn't want to rotate collate everytime you print. I used to use the PCL5 until it began rotate collating everything resulting in paper type mismatches when letter is loaded in only 1 drawer. I wish they would keep things consistent.

Re: How Well Do You Know Your Print Drivers?

Rick Backus ·
Here's another tidbit for you. Did you also know Ricoh has a driver editor for PCL drivers to set things like access via user codes. You can actually have a popup that asks the PC user for a user code before the print job is sent on to the printer. Sort of a poor man's Equitrac.

Re: How Well Do You Know Your Print Drivers?

jswinberlin ·
Rick, have you had success with the PCL Editor? I have tried it in the past and it seeemed unstable. I wanted to customize a driver for the pop-up and default to black & white. It worked. However, when I tried to install on mutiple clients it didn't work and it seemed to be user profile specific so if someone else logged onto the computer with their AD credentials it wasn't customized for them.

CW 2201SP Print Driver Questions

On the new wide-format printer, there is no option to print 36 X 24 (it defaults to 24 X 36), so all of our 36 X 24-inch drawings are going to the 24-inch roll (not really a problem; however, I do have 3 rolls of 36” paper here). The only option for the 36” is 36 X 48 (which we don’t always want because who wants a print that is 3 feet by 4 feet, right???). Anyway, is this a printer driver problem or something that can be changed by your techs? I spoke with our IT guy and he had downloaded...

When it comes to print drivers, I like to talk about who is going to install them, how many and at what cost. Often in SMB business there is no IT person to perform this task. I like to say that installing print drivers is considered Professional Services. For the first 90 days all Pro Services are included thereafter billable at $95.00 per hour. Customers often get new computers. I say if I can install them remotely, then No Charge. If I have to show up onsite, then one hour Pro Services.

Art, as usual, you hit the nail on the head! Using lockout specs for things such printer drivers and, also, scanner drivers can be a big deal to help sales. This is why I'm an advocate of using the emerging open source scanner driver specification with TWAIN Direct , but adding lockout features such as single sign-on authentication, PDF/R file creation or blockchain/NFT the scanned images as tokens! Each one of these features is a big deal itself, but combine them together and you can offer...

Microsoft kills off third party drivers in Windows

Art Post ·
Mopria is King Software King of the World Microsoft is axing third-party printer drivers in Windows and replacing them all with the Mopria standard. The timeline for the end of servicing stretches into 2027 and maybe longer if an important customer has printers lacking Mopria support. For those not in the know, Mopria was 2013 by Canon, HP, Samsung and Xerox. It provides universal standards for printing and scanning. Epson, Lexmark, Adobe and Microsoft have also joined the gang since then.
