Re: Q. How does your company handle networking charges?

VinceMcHugh ·
I once had a Doctor's receptionist baulk when I told her what a chargeable service call would cost. She said to me(indignantly), "the DOCTOR doesn't even charge that much". To which I replied "Yeah, I Know, but he can't fix his copier!" OK, OK, I only thought it very loudly when I was a young technician.

I was home in NJ getting ready to go out cold calling, had just came downstairs and I got a call from my mother-in law stating to turn on channel 7 because a plabe just hit the world trade building. I thought WTF??? How could that happen, and there it was, one of the towers on fire. I watched the news broadcast and then saw the other plane swoop in and hit the second tower! I was speachless, I tried to call the wife on her cell and could get a call out. I then went my backyard which...

I heard the same "small commuter plane" thing from my Digital Pager (ha) news alerts. I thought that sounded strange and turned on CNN in time to see the second plane hit. I also went to a customer to do training (in Nashville, TN), but when I arrived, their doors were locked. I knocked and someone inside peeked out. They opened the door, I explained why I was there and they said they had sent all the employees home. I had a friend who worked in WTC Building 7. He decided to call in sick on...

I had gone surfing 60 miles south of NYC before work that morning. It was one of the clearest mornings of that fall with perfect waves. Just a perfect after cold front morning. Not a cloud in the sky. I was a technician at the time and on my way to the first call of the day I heard on the radio of the first plane. I got to my first call and the office TV was directly over the copier. I was watching live when the second plane hit. I was at my second call of the day watching on their TV when...

Re: Got A Situation! What would ou do?

You should be able to go to a broker and get another 50ppm Toshiba for dirt cheep. I'd swap the machine out or fix the existing one. No way would I roll the lease on the customer. Just be honest with the customer and do the right thing by them. One call to a competitor for a quote and you are toast. Make it a positive in the customer's mind. The customer will respect you more in the long run if youdo the right thing. Roll the lease and risk losing the customer forever.

Re: Why is single clicking an 11×17 on a “copier” legal?

CashGap ·
The new machine from any of several competitors will be in place by the time you get back with that permission. Words mean things. Don't attempt to call something "deceit" when it is simply setting a manufacturer provided configuration option. It's a market situation, if the prevailing market (local market or vertical market) dictates single click 11x17, you participate or exit that market.

lets see if we can figure this out. 13% increase of $20,000 dollars for paper. This was a bid, so I'm guessing paper was....ER...WE'LL LET'S CALL IT $20 PER CASE OF 5000 sheets. Sharp as stated here and in news stories is NOT in complete control of their future. Two major Japanese banks also call the shots with sharp execs.
