We had a tech go to a call once and there was a black line down the right side on the page. He made another copy and the line was down the left side of the copy. Another one and it was diagonal. He told the customer "this just isn't possible". He opened the machine to examine the lamp and a mouse jumped out!

Tokyoamsterdam: Japan's Canon plans to buy Dutch copier and printer maker Oce for 730 million euros ($1.09 billion) as it tries to return to growth after the global downturn and fight rival Ricoh. Copier and digital camera maker Canon and Oce said in a joint statement on Monday that Canon intends to offer 8.60 euros per share, or 730 million euros, for Oce's outstanding shares. Canon's offer follows little over a year after Japan's Ricoh, the world''s largest copier maker, bought US office...

Go this via email today: Canon intends to make an offer of € 8.60 per Share for 100% of the outstanding Shares of Océ, representing a premium of 70% over Océ's stock price. There does not appear to be opposition to the deal either from European regulators or Océ board members. Océ will remain a separate legal entity as a Canon division, headquartered in Venlo (the Netherlands). The Océ brand is to be maintained and applied in all relevant markets. Océ will continue to lead its R&D and...

Here's one from a private school customer of mine a few years ago: We had just upgraded their fleet of Gestetner 3355's to a brand new fleet of Gestetner DSm660's. A teacher wanted to make copies of a book onto transparencies, and walked up to one of the new machines and ran them thru the bypass. The machine jammed up and completely stopped. So, thinking there must be something wrong w/ the set up of the new machine, she walked to another one of the BRAND NEW MACHINES and tried to run...

Good suggestion but expensive for a 20 copier install. ShareScan is a hardware add on level of technology to support and maintain that I was hoping to avoid. In the end, for me, for this quote, eCopy Share Scan is likely the best solution. It gives me a single solution for the required features of...

When Art can't understand your question about and industry he's been in for 20+ years, it's time to back up and re-write . I can agree that they leasing companies (and all lenders) acted foolishly in the past. Now the banks are acting like banks. That's not bad, though it may make it tougher to provide people with equipment you, I and they all know they have no business leasing. [If you were over 2 years in biz, 90% of the time no PG was required.] And now we know that two years in business is not adequate assurance of the company's ability to make the payments, so more assurance is required in the form of a PG.

With this transition complete & the amount of IBM intelligence they have on board, wouldn't it make complete sense for Ricoh to acquire Lexmark, a former subsidiary of IBM? Indeed many of the solutions involve Capture and Storage of printed pages; management of those documents after they're stored and the processing of data streams, be they from computer (laptop, desktop and larger systems), into forms or variable data printing. The printed page is NOT dead but businesses are discovering that they are difficult to manage once...

The most important question to ask is "how much do you copy 11x17"? If the answer is none, then the next question is "how often do you print 11x17"? When the answer is quite often, well A3 is then a no brainer, however if the answer is rarely, then I'll bundle an 11x17 laser or ink printer. Based on under 10K per month, A4 will save the customer on the TCO over the term of a 5 year lease.

Does most of the business world really have *no* minimum amount of copies included? Obviously, including 30% more than you are going to run is a bad idea, but if a minimum is set at a reasonable level, it's easier to budget your expenses. Also, reconciling those overages on a quarterly or semi-annual basis would help even out the peaks and valleys.

Duty cycle is a calculation where you take 22 business days per month x 8 hours x 60 mins x XXppm. Then subtract out service calls and PM's, then you have your duty cycle. There may be a little more complexity than this, but that is basically how you get the Duty Cycle. You can usually divide this number by 10-20 to get the recommended monthly volume.

There are 3 Canon dealers of size in the Dallas market, & at least one of them is in virtually every deal. One that has a 90 minute response time has been growing like crazy since they came into the market in the mid-2000's. Those 3 dealers probably do $50mm-$65mm per year, & there's also a CBS branch here. Canon does a lot of business in DFW.
