So, the Oki or Teriostar 1040 is one page per minute faster than the Ricoh. Oki wants the user to replace the corona wire cartridge and the process cartridge. I believe the process cartridge is the drum. Now, the memories come back, if an end user scratches that drum, it's on the user to replace the drum which is going to be a very pricey item. In my experience A4 machines are as much or even more hassle than an A3 machine to install and train which I do myself for the customer but my income off of the sale of the A4 device is a fraction of what it would have been had I sold an A3. Beyond that most A4 machines lack a document feeder built to handle the page volumes of walk up copying and scanning my customers do. At the end of the day I have to make a living so I spend my time on A3 opportunities.

In about 5 placements, I've been able to take customers from existing A4 color devices and put them into one of these models for not much more than what they were paying, the high cost of A4 color consumables was the key when the user was making about 1,000 color pages per month along with 1,500 or more black. I can't think of any way to duplicate a page (that's not just a driver/print setting/printstream issue, that's wholesale re-creation of a page) without getting a package that will do much much more (and cost more than you want to pay). How about setting up two printers with different default settings and having them print twice? If they aren't willing to pay, they either need to be willing to take extra steps or relinquish this request.

Will not work, cause document then needs to be stapled. I do remember that in most printers, you can set a feature where the printer will make a copy of the page that was sent, is this still true in most printers?

It's hard to place an accurate count on the number of trees we lose over a span of time because of the size of the number. We had a tech go to a call once and there was a black line down the right side on the page. He made another copy and the line was down the left side of the copy. Another one and it was diagonal. He told the customer "this just isn't possible". He opened the machine to examine the lamp and a mouse jumped out!

Good suggestion but expensive for a 20 copier install. ShareScan is a hardware add on level of technology to support and maintain that I was hoping to avoid. I was looking at eCopy Paperworks but this law firm has approx. 500 PCs. At around $180.00 per workstation this gets very expensive. Plus I am unsure if the law firm would move away from Adobe PDF. Are we on the same wave length here?? Usually a 3-5 means that service and supplies are provided for three years, after three years the customer then has to pay for service, thus raising the cost to them. ie: $100 per month for 60 months includes 3 years of supplies and service for 100K, after the third year or whenever the supplies and service expire, the rep will come back in and refi the remaining 24 months with a new 3-5, they can usually sell this at a lower price that what the customer...

I can agree that they leasing companies (and all lenders) acted foolishly in the past. Now the banks are acting like banks. That's not bad, though it may make it tougher to provide people with equipment you, I and they all know they have no business leasing. [If you were over 2 years in biz, 90% of the time no PG was required.] And now we know that two years in business is not adequate assurance of the company's ability to make the payments, so more assurance is required in the form of a PG.

With this transition complete & the amount of IBM intelligence they have on board, wouldn't it make complete sense for Ricoh to acquire Lexmark, a former subsidiary of IBM? Ricoh seems to be obsessed with the printed page, unlike HP & Xerox who have acquired professional services firms to increase their reach in the I.T. space.

I think that if you look at the non-hardware solutions that Ricoh now offers there are many, many that don't involve the printed page. Indeed many of the solutions involve Capture and Storage of printed pages; management of those documents after they're stored and the processing of data streams, be they from computer (laptop, desktop and larger systems), into forms or variable data printing. The printed page is NOT dead but businesses are discovering that they are difficult to manage once...

In Nova Scotia, Canada we are no longer allowed to dispose of copiers by taking them to the landfill. We must pay a local moving company $30.00 per hour (or send our tech to their premises) to disassemble the copier into it glass, metal, plastic & electronic components. These components are then placed in different bins for recycling. It can take approx two hours. Yes, it's gone now, it was actually if you googled Savin, there was a Products link right there on the google page and if you clicked it, it would take you to the Ricoh home page. One of my clients is a car dealership, and they recently replaced (2) Ricoh MP2510's & (2) Ricoh MP3010's with (4) Lexmark XS658dfe's. The average monthly volume on each of these is around 7,500, so considering that the Lexmarks are significantly more productive and haven't had any service calls in the first quarter, reliability doesn't appear to be an issue. As a point of reference, I have a customer that has a Lexmark XS463de (40ppm desktop mfp) that runs almost 11,000 per month and...

The most important question to ask is "how much do you copy 11x17"? If the answer is none, then the next question is "how often do you print 11x17"? When the answer is quite often, well A3 is then a no brainer, however if the answer is rarely, then I'll bundle an 11x17 laser or ink printer. Based on under 10K per month, A4 will save the customer on the TCO over the term of a 5 year lease.
