Re: Booklet printing with saddle stitch using Adobe Indesign CS5

John ·
We solved the problem. We changed a setting within InDesign CS5 from "Binary" to "ASCII". I do not know why this works since that same setting in InDesign CS4 is set to "Binary" but it fixed the problem. Much thanks to JasonR for taking the time to call me and discuss the problem. Not alot of people would do that and I really appreciate it. I have attached a screen shot of the change from within InDesign CS5. Feel free to comment on why this would have made a difference as I have no clue. John

Re: What is pdf/a?

My understanding is that PDF/A is the "archive" format and the main thing about it is that it does not rely upon any external links for fonts, graphics, etc.
Reply

Re: What is pdf/a?

Techsupguy ·
that is correct. The idea if to create a format that can outlast the programs that made it. There is a fear that existing file formats would become unreadable as the pace of technology leaves them behind. The PDF/A is supposed to be application independant.

I dunno, I can see much room for Sharp anymore. Growth areas are Print Production, very low end and MPS. Right now I don't see them as a player in any of these markets. They don't have wide format, duplicators (not that these have been big sellers lately), scanners. I was just on the sharp web site and what do they have three models of laser printers, maybe four tops! The claim to fame is A4 right now and the slick GUI. The industry is changing once again, thus we could see additional...

Canon has a strong reputation for quality and great brand recognition with businesses of all sizes. I can't tell you how many times I've heard prospects say they'll never use anything but Canon equipment, especially for color, & we all know that's where the money lies. We're a sole-line Lanier dealer (w/ Lexmark on the side for desktops & A4 mono). From my position as a Major Account Rep, I would love to have Canon. That's always a tough call to make, though, for a dealer principal,...

We charge an inexpensive fee (1 hour labor) to format the hard drive, but if they want something more secure, we will remove the hard drive from the old machine and replace it with a new hard drive. For that, we charge the cost of the hard drive + labor and either destroy the old hard drive or return it to the client. That typically costs less than $500 and is easy to roll into a new deal. We've done this on Sharps, Canons, Toshibas, Kyoceras and Konica Minoltas. The hard drives are easy to...

But if you can't restore the OS on that hard drive, you would be returning an inoperable machine to the leasing company. I agree, finding/replacing the HD isn't the issue, it's the proprietary software reload that is. Anyway, the conversation should go like this: "Your old vendor didn't include that? Let me show you what we do at the end of lease (show them your HD Format/wipe procedure and the 'you keep the drive' option)."

Canon's Cloud Portal - MEAP App allows you to connect a Canon ImageRUNNER-Advance to either GoogleDocs or MS Sharepoint Online. The MEAP App is free from Canon, and GoogleDocs will give you a free 1Gig of storage when you open a gmail account. The last time I checked a Terabyte of storage was ~ $250/year, which is pretty darn cheap. This allows you to Scan directly to GoogleDocs and Print Directly from GoogleDocs. You can even print MS Word, Excel, & Powerpoint docs that are stored on...

Type f and later copiers will support PPDM without fail, the older copiers are an "iffy" solution as per Ricoh Tech Support." This was in response to the US District Court asking for PDF-A formatting.

Great job Art....I did not even think of KIP because they were not MFP's. You should have a whole series of this interactive areas.....I think this is the most response we had from several people in awhile. I don't think Xerox will buy them because Ursula Burns wants to stay away from wide-format. However KIP has a great relationship with KM so that could be a possibility. But at 6% marketshare KM is not very strong either.

At one point I would have thought Kip would be a good buy for Canon. I have heard that they share or at least did share some manufacturing space in Japan. Kip is also a monocomponent system, much like Canon. However, now that Canon has Oce, Kip might be less attractive. I would like to see Ricoh buy them. Kip has a great wide format line. They suffer from not being diversified at all in thier product line.

I asked for this with the "secure" forums, however at this time the eve format will not support a "like" button. I would like to have this also, but still think we need to keep the forums secure for everyone. Art

Both Canon and Xerox press releases seem to point towards future wide format devices using Memjet technology. I thought Xerox was getting out of the wide format market? All of this new activity cannot be good news for KIP when these products are actually ready for disribution. Toshiba seems to be the only vendor talking about Memjet technology in a MFP.

In your example, i is .8853 per month or 10.62 annual. Probably didn't format well, go to "Present Value of an Annuity" here http://people.hofstra.edu/stef...World/Summary10.html

The Toshiba approach to this would be to create a "One Touch" template to scan directly to the target folder. Current eBridge X Operating Systems allows you to navigate a network to find a specific "nested" folder but that can take a few minutes to complete. I agree with Anders that MFPs have limited computational power. The conversion of scanned documents from one format to another is faster processed by a Network PC. I hope to get to 2500 emails sent once a quarter a year from now. That would be 10,000 emails a year prospecting to new customer's As the message I send is very small with no pictures or web links, I do not get shot down by many web filters.
