Art, I have worked with and demo'd many of the individual components, and I had heard that Samsung was coming out with a bundle but this is the first I have seen it. The "Secuthru" Lite is a server less follow me printing, pretty cool. The Google Drive (Cloud App) worked pretty well too. Vince

Re: Four Hour Support for On-Site Service "Does it Really Mean Anything Anymore?"

fisher ·
Our company is known first and foremost for its service. We have a competitor from the next state over who sells the same product line but uses generic supplies and might not show up for 3 days when the customer has a problem. They will quote $0.00 nothing for the service plan and promise the world. They are hard to sell against on price but for every deal we lose to them we probably pick up two disgruntled accounts of theirs.

I think it still matters. Fisher makes a good point. A lot of times we may lose based on the price but pick up a couple accounts from the competitor who is doing a lousy job for the customer.

I hear you on that, I just picked up one today from that same vendor. But it was for the maintenance portion of the account. Doesn't help me know, since they have two devices that are less than two years old. All I'm stating is that we tout how good we are until we're blue in the face. Maybe we need a list of anti references for those dealers that don't perform good service?

Re: Selling Professional Services for SMB Accounts, Worth it or Not Worth it!

SalesServiceGuy ·
As an independent dealer we are definitely giving away too much Pro Services in the SMB space. We kind of us it as a sales pitch against the National vendors who almost always charge Pro Services. Right now we are starting to give the customers invoice for many Pro Services that we deliver but offset it with a credit, so that they can see it's value. This will set up a future invoice where there will be no credit. We leave it up to the sales rep how he sells the workflow and how much...

interesting...on no commissions for pro-services. What have you seen for the price per hour of Pro-Services from the National Vendors (direct)? Thus what happens when you have almost no margins in a workflow solution? With me, there was only $200 from cost to MSRP with a workflow solution, are you then selling over MSRP?

Re: NSI Auto Store Installs

jswinberlin ·
Art: Not sure if this would help but there is a setting in the ABBYY componenet for allow pass through. This should allow the original file to pass through. I'm not sure if this would happen before the OCR process or after. If it happened before, the final product could be appended to differentiate the OCR'd document or directed to a different location.

Lots of experience w NSI. First, never worry about slowing the sales cycle - get it right up front. Second, large files always require additional fire power to OCR, I have seen many happy customers after adding addtl OCR engines from NSI. My recommendation is to engage a PS resource or NSI themselves, you will have a happyer customer as a result.

No experience with Output Manager, but have been VERY pleased with PaperCut so far. We have an installation in Phase 1 right now with 19 MFPs, all embedded with PaperCut (prox card authentication), XMedius Fax Server, PSI Capture Intelligent Routing, and DocAudit. Should be interesting to say the least!

Perhaps you could have engaged your professional services group who would have asked specific questions of the client to determine what their workflow would be and ultimately the configuration of the software. They could have helped you avoid those two issues if they had the opportunity to speak to the client prior to install.

Honestly, I don't think your customer has a reasonable expectation. OCRing large documents takes time.....it doesn't matter what OCR engine you are using. I played programming NSI for the first time yesterday in our showroom and the small scans I was doing were instant. 20 pages of invoices....not so fast. It is what it is.

This is funny, because the article makes no mention that Brother devices have some of the highest cost per page costs, along with consumables that have a hard time delivering yields. More importantly, is it not right to talk at the centralized MFP? Should we all just sit at our desks for four hours at a clip. Medical reports now seem to indicate that sitting is one of the worst things you can do for extended amounts of time.

Additionally, there will be more firmware released for the mid-volume, production, and desktop models in between now and the end of the year for current models. From what I understand,...

A good test is if it will scan to a current MAC which does not support SMB 1. The Samsungs have worked, and I believe the Konica Minoltas too. The Canon MFDs do not, not even the latest V3 IR-Advance MFDs. We need to add Authorized Send to support this. Vince
