This Week in the Copier Industry 10 Years Ago (First Week of February 2010)

Art Post ·
I mentioned in the previous blog that we had our Kickoff Sales meeting for 2020 yesterday. Rather than drive the three hours home I opted to stay over night and leave first thing in the AM. 2019 was a very good year, I was back in President's Club for the 7th time, got me a $50 gift card for winning a contest at our branch. Maybe an old timer like me can win the Grand Prize next week, we'll see we have some talented peeps and all will be out for the glory. It's time to bring out the old dog...

Why I'm Stoked About Selling Standalone Scanners Again

Art Post ·
For years and years I wanted nothing to do with selling desktop and workgroup scanners. I learned the hardware many years ago that selling desktop and workgroup scanners an exercise in wasting my fraking time. Years ago when I first saw those desktop scanners from Fujitsu I thought they would sell like hotcakes. I thought, I could sell these to everyone that had a desk and processed paper. I had the talk track down, I was able to get the decision makers to buy in, however when it came down...

Five Reasons Why Dealers Should Lead with Panasonic Scanners Today had me with a working lunch and I wanted to connect with Brian Szoke (Partner Sales Manager for Document Imaging with Panasonic) to educate us more about Panasonic and their document scanners. Thoughts About the Copier Industry?

Art Post ·
Just a little background on this email. Deon (South Africa Dealer) sent me the article from RTM where the original headline was “ Ricoh Says it Will Quit Paper and Shareholders Go Crazy .”. I'm guessing there was some pressure from Ricoh because within 48 hours the headline was changed to Ricoh Transitions From Paper and Shareholders Get Excited. Deon emailed me this thoughts and I thought the time is right to have a discussion based as to where our industry in going. We would love to hear...

I agree consolidation is a must. One of the recent posts had Ricoh partnering with other A3 manufacturers? Don't know how true that is. We may see some surprises this April which is the start of the new year for all of the Japanese manufacturers. COVID still hanging around here in the East. After the Presidents speech tonight he wasn't giving much hope for an early end to this. We can only hope and pray. Thanks for the comment!

Consolidation has to occur. There is no way there can be this many competitors selling essentially the same device. Machine hardware has hit a plateau, there isn't really much to advance other than adopting a completely different technology. So they add apps and connectivity which is great but eventually those platforms will also consolidate and there wont be a need for all of this diversification to print a piece of paper.
