So are you saying as a customer you wouldn't expect to be able to go to a manufactures website and locate a dealer? Am I supposed to go find the product I want then go someplace else to find where to buy it.

Re: Committed to Dealer Success

Art Post ·
No I'm not. In the case of Formax, you would call them and they would give you the name of the Authorized Dealer and I'm assuming it would be the same case with Muratec since there are no dealer locators on their web sites. Is there really a need to have 6-8 dealers covering the same geo area along with the Direct channel. Here's an example, in my territory in which we are Authorized I can't remember the last time I received a lead. Some of the manufacturers sights are slanted to delivering...

Top Ten Copier & Imaging Industry Predictions for 2020

Art Post ·
So was 2019 a good year or a not so good year for the imaging industry? If I'm thinking about my personal results then 2019 was awesome and one of the best ever. I think 2020 will prove to be one of the biggest years yet for change in our industry. Change is good, right? I'm sure there will be at least two or three bombshells with one of them happening in late January 2020 and then another in late March to early April 2020. None of my predictions came true in 2019 and that's because I didn't...

Is This the Death of Lexmark? Firm Rumored to Sell to Konica Minolta

Is This the Death of Lexmark? Firm Rumored to Sell to Konica Minolta Photizo Group has received an unsolicited letter postmarked December 23, 2015 stating that “Paul Rooke, Jeri Isbell, the executive officers of Lexmark, and the Board of Directors are preparing to sell Lexmark to Konica Minolta…”, seemingly confirming our own due diligence and supposition earlier this year . This incendiary letter, penned by the infamous Lexmark Employees for Ethical Conduct (LEEC), pleads with Kentucky’s...

Top Ten Copier & Imaging Industry Predictions for 2017

Art Post ·
Looking back, 2016 was one heck of a year with our industry. Lexmark was purchased by Apex Technology Co., Ltd (People Republic of China). Who would have guessed that? Sharp Corporation lived to fight another day when Foxconn (Taiwan aka Republic of China) acquired them earlier this year. Then just a few weeks ago Print Audit purchases NeoStream (document management software company). Of course we then have the purchase of Samsung Imaging Division by HP. We can only wonder what's next for...

Graph Expo Day Two 2016

Art Post ·
It's early on day 3 of the Graph Expo show. I'm up and about early at the Hyatt Regency and I've made way to the pool grotto to enjoy the sunrise. Since I had covered most of the show floor on day one, day two was a chance to go back and gather additional information on some of those products that I found interesting. In addition there were some additional devices like the KIP Color wide formats, and the OCE Color wide formats that I wanted to get some additional data on to help me in my day...

The Flat Rate Program "The Good, the Bad & the Ugly"

Art Post ·
If you've been around as long as I have, then you're old! No, really it's that you've seen or heard about some of the coolest marketing programs from our beloved copier manufacturers. One program has recently has a ton of chatter on the Print4Pay forums lately. That's the KonicaMinolta All inclusive unlimited click program. I first heard of the program through one of my Linkedin connections and he was touting how awesome the program is for clients. In fact he's authored his success on the...

It may be the death of Lexmark, only time will tell. I can say that it may have many in the Industry worried. Say you own a large Canon dealer and were using Lexmark too capture your customers printer / a4 devices. This sale might open the door for the KM account manager to take over the entire fleet, replace the Canon copiers and service the Lexmark Printers. Or, if you are a manufacture who is using Lexmark for the same reason, but your potential operating costs are going to be on the rise...

Re: Selling Copiers "Should I Go Out on My Own"

While we are reminiscing about starting an office equipment dealership, it was 37 years ago that I started Business Machines Inc. (BMI) in Raleigh. BMI started as an Olivetti City Dealer and later into a full service dealership. Over the years BMI transitioned from a typewriter/calculator dealer to a computer, fax, and finally a copier dealer. It was August, 2012 that I started my exit of the industry by selling BMI to CEI with the agreement to work with them for one more year. As I write...

I have an IT friend who names the printers on his client's networks after the Seven Dwarfs. If he runs out of dwarfs he uses other Disney characters. I always know when I'm in one of his client's offices.

Re: Cannata Awards Recipients

I wanted to respond to the "Best Software & Services Providers" Award. It's my understanding and I could be wrong, is that a dealer survey is sent to "x" dealers with the above questions. There were four nominees that I heard of and they were: ACDI FM Audit Paper Cut Square 9 Where is DocuWare, Nuance, Print Audit, PSIGEN, MWAI and the others? Which got me to thinking. Is Cannata using the same pool of dealers every year for the voting? I'm thinking maybe yes, because these players in...

I agree Rick Taylor has done a superb job at KM but I think he does win it every year. Rightfully so in my opinion, but I also believe Cannata uses the same dealers every year. Since I met them a couple years ago and we use 4 or 5 partners on the lists now we have been included in the voting for the last 2 years.

Re: Cannata Awards Recipients

Ty for the comment, I think the same about Taylor. So, unless those dealers change who they use as third party supplies, none of the other will ever get on the list.

Question: This makes little sense. If it is "unlimited clicks" but at the same time if the customer goes over their typical use pattern there is an overage charge, then how can it be "unlimited clicks"? I must be missing something! From the post: Here's what's not so good for the sales person to chat about: If a client use of supplies rises above the typical use pattern (determined by KMBS) the client would need to pay overage charges

Re: The Flat Rate Program "The Good, the Bad & the Ugly"

Then let me take it one step further - is there anything misleading in the way it is being presented? Is there any way to see the offer in writing from one of the reps out there? It one thing to "say" it is unlimited clicks - it is another thing if it is writing. Doesn't seem to be unlimited clicks in any way shape or form to me. Is this going to give Office Equipment Sales People a bad name out there? I think it needs to be exposed if this is a scam.

Re: The Flat Rate Program "The Good, the Bad & the Ugly"

Art Post ·
I'm not seeing this as a scam, but just a company protecting it self if a user is producing too much color on a page. personally, I think the reps need to tell the "entire" story and explain any potential pitfalls.

Re: The Flat Rate Program "The Good, the Bad & the Ugly"

Art Post ·
IN reviewing what I write about excess clicks, the wording should have been " to pay for improper or excess use". I have changed that in the blog and I apologize for the mistake. However, it stills means that there will be some time of charge. It will be interesting to what happens once many of these contracts are in the field. For certain users this will be an excellent opportunity to reduce costs, especially with those that have a large fleet of printers.
