That is Fast! In my experience, the limiting factor in scanning w.f. originals isn't the hardware, it's the ability to load, position, and un-load the originals. I like the way my Savin machines can be easily converted to a "flat" scanner, which when used with a SureStack, can really scan fast! You are only limited by your ability to load the next original.

When it was new and somewhat unique I talked about it a lot but didn't find many applications. Now I don't even bring it up inless I'm at something like a church or real estate office...someplace with the potential of a non-resident employee or volunteer. Even then there are other ways to accomplish the task that are just as easy, if not easier. I'd love to hear about applications I'm missing out on.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. Hearing common feedback - it's a potential conversation starter and easy function for end-users, but relatively narrow use case (machine loses network connection, or a non-networked visitor needs print/scan access).

Re: Here's an interesting question I received about Ricoh scanning

Bumble001 ·
No sure if I understand the question. Are you scanning to a server at a remote location of the same company i.e. satellite office? You would be able to do it if they have a VPN setup between the two sites. If they do not have a VPN I believe you are out of luck.

No, there are two different companies that she owns with two different LAN's and servers.

Re: Here's an interesting question I received about Ricoh scanning

Bumble001 ·
No you can not scan SMB directly to a folder on a server at two different LAN's. The only way you could scan to a folder on a server is to setup a FTP server on the server and open the Firewall to allow the FTP server to function.

Bill Knight ·
For Windows 8 and Server 2012 you can upgrade the firmware to fix this problem. Another option is to install Dropbox at both locations and have them sync to that folder. This way you scan to the local folder by SMB and with Dropbox it will automatically sync to the other location.

Re: Global Scan NX Server 32 Question

VinceMcHugh ·
Art, I never did a lot with Global Scan when I was at Ricoh Business Systems \ Boston but I have done some work with OCR and large format. It is not an easy task. The amount of data that has to be processed, especially since most of the Wide Format is drawings and not text. If you can set a specific zone to OCR maybe it would work better. But at least the last time I looked at it, it didn't turn out very successful. Again, I didn't use GlobalScan, so maybe it will turn out better for you.

Re: Global Scan NX Server 32 Question

Hi Art, The only piece of software that I can think can do this is eCopy ShareScan. The back end is completely customizable, so you should be able to configure every scan to auto rotate before getting dumped into the watch folder. Most manufacturers are eCopy authorized, so I would talk to your dealer account manager to confirm this.

Art, There are several options regarding scan workflows on the imageRUNNER Advanced devices. Uniflow is a Canon owned option. Also, an embedded or Scan Station from eCopy just to name a couple.

Re: Need Some Help with Canon Solutions

Hey Art, As far as I know, NSI Autostore is not supported by Canon. Canon does work really well with eCopy ShareScan though. Depending on the scan workflow you need, a lot of the functions are built into the 2nd generation imageRUNNER ADVANCE platform. For example, Scan to Word, OCR, etc. You can enhance these workflows using the Quick Menu button to create 1-touch shortcuts. I use eCopy ShareScan if customers require Zonal OCR.

Re: Need Some Help with Canon Solutions

Thanks for this! Which beings me to another question. On my Ricoh devices, I can set up a scan workflow button (standard feature), I can then program that button to deliver that document to multiple email addresses, folders and fax numbers (I'm pretty sure of the fax). Thus the user presses the one workflow button and the document is sent to the multiple locations in one shot. Is there a feature like this with the Canon systems, if so is it a standard feature or an option?
Reply

Re: Need Some Help with Canon Solutions

Czech ·
Hey Art, Yes, it's called the Quick Menu, standard on all imageRUNNER ADVANCE devices. You can program virtually any task to a 1-touch button. Instead of separate Scan and Fax functions, Canon uses something called Universal Send which allows you to send a document via Fax, Scan To Email, Scan to Folder, etc. all at the same time.

Re: Scan & Copy on new 4054 series?

you can scan to a FTP, and the IP for the FTP can be the IP address of another device. You have to have PS for this to work but all seg 1 MFPs and printers come standard with PS. Instructions: set "server" as the IP address of the target printer No Path User name & password are both "admin" Be sure to have PDF as the default file type. On all ??03 machines you can save the destination in a scan program.

Re: Canon C350iF Question about Cloud Enabled

Czech ·
Hey Art, I believe this refers to their "Google Docs" function which allows you to access your Google Drive. We have a 350iF in our showroom and I don't see any cloud-based applications embedded in the interface. Most of Canon's document management solutions are server-based.

Re: Canon C350iF Question about Cloud Enabled

NC_ACC ·
Canon has just changed their cloud enabled service. For several years now, Canon allowed acces to Google Drive and Sharepoint by simply entering a PIN to enable. Two months ago Canon annouced that to broaden thier cloud connect offering, a web interface module would have to be purchased for each ADVANCED unit to connect, moving forward. Thus, the PIN no longer allows access from all the legfacy units in the field. Canon has offered free web interface kits to all units currently in the field.

Re: OCR option MP C4503

I have not seen this yet. Have you tried to scanning to thumb drive to see if there is the same issue? I remember doing a scan demonstration for a client with blank page on (or at least I do) and the speed was incredible with the thumb drive. The next option I would try is scanning to ICE, because the OCR is done in the cloud, however not sure if ICE will do blank page. Art

Update: Regardless of what I've found on forums or replies, true SMB2 or SMB3 scanning is not currently supported. Ricoh has acknowledged and is quickly working on firmware. As of now, there will be an updated firmware available before 8/1/2017 for all of the latest Mono "55" series and Color "04" series. Additionally, there will be more firmware released for the mid-volume, production, and desktop models in between now and the end of the year for current models. From what I understand,...
