Re: HP Launches Instant Ink Subscription Program

dimaxusa ·
Some time ago I read that HP loses around 40% on every inkjet device they sell. Razor and blades I guess. How much can it cost to make a low end printer that works for a couple years or whatever? Lets hope that HP doesn't figure out how to totally destory the supplies and service business for the rest of us. If it wasn't for super high OEM supply costs would the MPS biz be worth it? I hope they don't figure out a good way to lock out vendors with supply discounts and easy blended device costs.

I Had an Awesome Day and Didn't Sell A Copier aka Print Device

I'm thinking it was 2006 when I first met Dave. Dave had this really cool setup for printing color envelopes on one of the first Oki color A3 laser print engines. At that time Dave definitely had one printer running and If I remember correctly had a few more that were primed for back ups. Back in 2006 it was quite uncommon to see a color laser printer that would feed envelopes without wrinkling them. Could have also been because I only carried the Ricoh brand and back in 2006 they were not...

Comparing Printers and Copiers "The Real Dope for Copier Salespeople"

Art Post ·
Dam, I almost finished this entire blog and I erased it!! There's a new game in town for comparing printer and copier devices Back in the eighties it was all about speeds and feeds, if you needed to compare a Ricoh vs Canon, you grabbed your spec check book, made a copy of each page, then broke out the color highlighters and proceeded to highlight your best specs vs the competitors worst specs. Those that had more "best" specs usually won the day and the sale. Do You Remember When? Back in...

5 Questions for HP about the Acquisition of Samsung Printer Business Unit

It's obvious that HP's CEO Deon Weisler may not have the pulse of the copier channel especially when he releases a statement that reads: "What we're doing is disrupting an outdated , old $55 billion copier market with superior multi-functional printing and that's the core takeaway. Some questions I'd like to ask Weisler would be: 1. How is the current copier channel out dated? Last time I checked Samsung also uses Xerographic technology to print & copy. 2. Why are you investing into the...

Aight, it's an older Ricoh MP 3601SP, However, we still have one in the show room and I thought it would be cool to count how many color and black labels were adhered to the MP3601SP. I didn't not pop any of the covers, but I did open the roll feeder and the toner hopper. The method for my madness is to bring attention to labels, especially color labels. Color labels are all around us, and most of the time we're not paying attention to how many labels are in our lives on a daily basis. With...

Hey Art, We just got a desktop 3D Printer in our showroom. I expect it will do great at getting IT folks in for demos. The technology really is cool! But that's about it. From what I've seen, 3D printers have 0 practicality in an office or business environment. Perhaps the occasional school will purchase one. A lot of dealerships sell telecom services on top of copiers. It's a very similar industry: - 5 year contracts - upfront hardware revenue that can be purchased or leased - reoccurring...

Personally, I think you're right on with your ideas about 3D. I don't know if it will ever have the acceptance copiers had in their heyday, but right now, it's a product looking for a market. I saw something intersting on TV involving a 3D printing application. The company (which was not involved in any medical field) found it could use it's 3D printer to produce a prosthesis specifically designed for children. Children grow and therefore quickly outgrow their artificial limbs. This 3D...
