Selling Copiers in the Seventies with Steve Mcbride

Art Post ·
About a month ago I had the opportunity to attend the BTA National event in New York City. While at the event I ran into Steve Mcbride, Steve is currently VP of Sales with Innovolt. We had an interesting discussions about the cool Bluetooth technology with the Innovolt Smart Protectors (you can get these from Polek & Polek ) and how techs can identify the voltage in the MFP through a smart phone. I also found out that Steve had started selling copiers in the late seventies. Thus, I asked...

Re: Twelve Days of Selling "Day 4"

Jason H ·
Art, I've enjoyed reading your 12 days of selling especially the part about Saturdays. I really like that part now as when I woke up this morning I had an email from about 7am from a client who needs to spend the rest of his budget before year end. So not a bad Saturday morning start with a 25,000 order for 2 new color systems. This month should turn out well as I expect another 25,000 order on Monday and finished yesterday out with a wide format order and a small church system order.

In Memoriam of Copiers Terms and Features from Days Gone By

Art Post ·
'In memoriam ' is a Latin phrase that directly translates as "into memory". I really wasn't sure how to title this blog, and thought long and hard about how to get my message across in the title. Back in August of this year I started a forum thread on the P4P Hotel forums titled "Copier Terms/Language from days gone by". We had a few old timers that chimed in (including me) to post those terms and language that we just don't see anymore in our industry. What started all of this, was the word...

57 Days of Selling "Day 26"

It was a late night last night, I finally got to sleep around 2AM or maybe 2:30AM. The election had me riveted to the TV for hours and hours of counting votes, percentages and listening to commentary. Rather than give you my journal for the day, I thought I would share an email that I just sent to a net new account that I had an appointment with today. The end of the appointment was somewhat humorous. The client had back to back appointments, my was first and then the competition followed.

Liquid E-Stats all the way to present day Canons and Xeroxes. I was a tech for 20 years then started my own biz as tech and sales 15 years ago. Still at it! I remember the "CROP" codes you mentioned. This post takes me back to when i got into the industry in 1972 in the UK. Started on the wet copiers AB Dick 625 and got through more ties that i care to count due to dispersant. We had a tech that run out of petrol in the company van and a bottle of this (not premix) in his fuel tank allowed him to drive to the nearest garage! Also remember working on the 3M (Scotch Copiers) that required the user to use 2 special sheets of paper- 1 Light Sensitive for the image and the other heat...

Definitely request files from customer. During virtual demos, I've printed their files as well as a couple sample files from the manufacturer, and mailed the samples to the prospect after the demo so they could a) see the functionality and production virtually while b) seeing the results physically.

Why Copier Sales People Still Need to Demonstrate MFP's & Wide Format Devices

Art Post ·
This week, I was stationed in Atlantic City for an Association event spanning three days. While being away from home for such a duration isn't my preference, the Association event serves as a robust platform for gathering leads for potential new prospects. From 7 AM to 7 PM on Thursday, with half-day commitments on Wednesday and Friday, the schedule can be quite taxing for anyone. Thankfully, I had backup representatives assisting me on Wednesday and Thursday. Prior to the event, I ensured...
