It's a very short month for me this month. In fact my month ends on the 18th.  On the 19th I'll start the Easter celebration and on Monday it's off to Vegas for ITEX 2019 along with meeting my new brother!

We put the effort in every day and we can only hope that all of the hard work gets us to where we want or need to be at the end of the month. Thus, I knew that if I didn't put the extra time in this month I would put up a stinker (sales month). Stinkers are not an option, but they can happen.....more here

The SR 3290 booklet maker is offer for the new IMC 4500 and 6000 series. I'm curious if this booklet maker has an internal stacking mechanism. Meaning that while one booklet is being ejecting the next booklet is being stacker so there is no close down with the print process. The SR3270 is not capable of this. Got a demo on the Epsons but was not impressed. HPs Pagewide inkjet is a far better product and presents a very real threat to the laser world we all have been living in. HP's biggest drawback on their Pagewide MFPs is their user interface which is very clunky compared to the other major MFP manufacturers like Ricoh, Canon and KM. The output from the HP Pagewide exceeded my expectations. For business documents on plain copy paper the output is better than Epson or Riso's outragiously expensive

They are their own worst enemy when it comes to getting a foothold with office equipment dealers. The ops panel compared to a Ricoh, Canon or other major manufacturer of MFPs is terrible. After spending 45 minutes with Jesse late night on how to input pricing and customization. I was able to complete my first web and document proposal. , we have not sold a single one in a year and a half or so. We thought this could possibly be the next "thing", but it appears that is not the case. When we talk about it to the customers they don't get excited with the selling points the machine has: No replacement parts, 50,000 page ink cartridges, print head warranty. They also don't like the bridge unit that makes the stapler sit out 3 or 4 feet from the machine. It makes for a very large footprint and also adding the finisher slows the machine

no, I can't buy it from them I need to call the manufacturer whom we ordered the MFPS from I then call the manufacturer and get told "no those aren't our item codes you need to call Nusiance for that" I then call back the Budapest guy and he tells me "No we can not sell to you, you need to call the manufacturer" At this point we're trying to get a copier delivered so I call LoJack directly and finally get hold of someone who can help and lo and behold I get all of the information and a quote. Yeti- I agree with you, and I was in channel sales as well. I think a big part of the program is there's a lot of channel sales people that don't understand that it's a two way street. When I was "feet on the street" you'd have a channel rep come in, make a presentation and then say "okay take me on meetings". Thanks Jason! I was out at the Epson office as well around the launch time and they were SO excited to get this product on the market. Print quality was good in my opinion when they tested it, but I've also heard that there are still customer concerns around page curling. Appreciate the additional feedback.

How many man (or women) hours were invested by reps nationwide practising for and competing in a contest for skills that are seldom used anymore? John, You could try setting up a separate Printer using a basic or even Universal HP Print Driver and point it to the Canon. I have done it before using an HP PCL Driver and it allowed me to print from applications that Just would not print using the Canon Driver. As long as you don't ask it to do any advanced functions the PCL code will be understood. At least it has been on the larger Canon MFDs I don't do too many of the smaller CDW printers. Good Luck! John Not sure if I can remember any third party horror stories, but I did have one with Ricoh many years ago when they introduced their first 80 ppm production MFP. At 80 pages a minute I thought it was a no brainer to place them in print shops. I was so wrong. Turns out that piece of crap could not printor copy good halftones. I sold one and it came back, I later found out from Ricoh peeps that they knew the device was horrid with halftones, however they did not tell the dealers or the sale

Art - I chatted with Xerox and they said the only way for it to work was if the job was 3 pages. They said they didn't have a way to staple every 3 pages within a job. They also have exception rules... where if we can get the job to be just 3 pages it can pull from tray 1, exception - tray 2, another exception - tray 3. The company in Germany you mentioned didn't reply, so that was a no go. I appreciate you checking on this for us.

This was something a 3rd party solutions vendor rep said at a dealer event to me once that left me speechless. The actual full quote was: "I don't give a sh** about dealers I just want to sell and move on." Needless to say when that same person called about becoming a partner recently I had to shoot it down. This got me thinking. It's hard enough day-to-day for our sales teams battling to the lowest click rate for pennies which is why we look at alternative solutions to increase profitability

Maybe HP buys the finance business. should fit right in with their global finance expansion. Not to mention HP will eventually buy the entire Xerox business, as soon as carl gets all the operating cost lower. Xerox is working on a strategy to sell. It won't be long before HP opens the garage in Palo Alto and welcomes the new team from Rochester.

Unreal! I had to have this talk with a rep the other day. This girl sees the positive in everything and is about as happy go lucky as anyone I've ever met. She didn't believe me that buyers are liars. She got strung along with a customer that was going to lunch with her, having a glass of wine in the evening with her, all the while telling her she would have an order soon. Ricoh discovered in 2017, and for some, there won't be anyone left to sell to if they realize this too late. Some will argue that the multiples paid to the mega dealers by the new strategic acquirers are worth the risk. I would agree for those early to the party this will prove correct. I am sure DEX did just fine, and the next two or three mega dealers who bought their portfolio of dealers for 3-5 times earnings will also do well selling to Staples, Office Depot, or maybe BestBuy at 8-10 times

should beat with your Canon devices, I would focus on your ink cost and ink yieldscompared to HP. In addition all color HP ink is dye based, meaning it will run or smear if the document gets wet.

Slight correction...both the IM 430F and the IM 430Fb are 43 ppm. Additional info...the 430F (SP 501) has a Service Maintenance platform while the 430Fb (SP 502) has a User Maintenance platform. The SP 510 and SP 502 are printer only versions of their respective MFP's. As far as I know, the SP's and the IM 350 (350F without a standard fax) have not been launched yet. We have a law firm that wanted PaperCut but REALLY liked their eCopy scan stations for their Ricohs Our issue is that when they try use /access scanstation to scan it says the scan-station is in use by another user. We’re are using twain scan version 5 and papercut has been set to allow host based authentication from their end. Scanning on Canon 525if Machines

Just an FYI. I would do your homework and testing on this machine before putting it somewhere where scanning is important. We replaced a Samsung and added three of these to a lawyers office and they do no like the scanning much at all. Lots of jams so far. The feeder seems to be very sensitive to torn corners, creases etc. More so than any other feeder I've seen on a machine.

John, Does the user want to track scanning done on the ScanStation? If so, you would need to engage Ricoh and/or your PaperCut provider to create a ticket. But before I would do that, I would try the basics first, firmware up to date on the MFP and Java if it is installed on Java, then the latest version of PaperCut that is supported on the MFP. If they don't want to track ScanStation scanning, try setting the Authentication on the MFP to not require authentication for Scanning. These

Here's something I'm not understanding at least with the copiers and distribution. Dex has dealer agreements with with Kyocera, KonicaMinolta and Canon in their geographical locations. Could those dealer agreements be transferred or renegotiate with Staples? If so could Staples then offer all of those devices nationwide? I was just on Dex's web site and at least for now their web sites tells me that they are still is the "push" mode and not the "pull" mode for their copiers aka imaging devices

I think that many XBS dealers will be in total did array with the transfer of Xerox accounts. XBS will have to hire and training sales people, techs and admin. In additional all of those peeps will need training. I saw this happen with Ricoh Corp transfer to dealers. Many dealers were overwhelmed. I imagine the same will happen with XBS. Hope this helps

My understanding is they have eliminated the Classic Applications which I think is a terrible idea since so many of my customers are upgrading existing Ricoh machines. I like to make things as simple as possible and quite honestly customer's don't need all the extra fluff being thrown at them.

And we have many customers who has outsourced large print jobs - fx. real estate agents who prints flyers. I am sure that they would bring that back home if the only cost is time and paper. I think a lot of the small operations are getting squeezed out because they didn't keep up with technology and like said, there are a lot of acquisitions. I'd say its a really good time to be a mid-sized dealer in the 5-10 million dollar range. My experience has been that the giants created by these acquisitions don't provide the level of customer service that customers will get from a mid-sized dealer. Bigger isn't always better.

I don't have a list, however it's my understanding that almost any laser printer can be used for MICR printing, as long as you can find a provider that sells the MICR toner cartridges. I took a quick look on Amazon and saw many generic MICR toner cartridges for Lexmark. Hope this helps

I find it interesting that if you go to www.lexmark.com and search their website for "investor relations" or "financial statements" you get no response. If you search the NYSE or NASDAQ you will not find Lexmark except in the past tense. In the USA, Lexmark's Chief Financial Officer came from Huawei in 2017 and was first educated in Shanghai, China. Not only employees getting screwed so are Xerox Vendors The layoffs are occurring around the country at Xerox' Global Imaging sites, so the impact is wider than just in Rochester. And now they are not paying vendors within terms, any vendor without contracted terms are being paid in 60-90 days. While at the same time Xerox is pressuring their sales teams to help collect money from their customers. Don't be fooled by John V, anyone below his reverse Robin Hood group of merry men are at risk
